(Guitarhacker)

Even if you just bought the external interface from the store.... go to their website and download the drivers. The drivers on the software disk will probably work just fine, but quite often, the manufacturer will have fixed some bugs or simply come out with a better driver for the interface, so it always pays to check and update to the latest drivers.
Re:install audio device or MC5 first? (57Gregy)

Right. Any time you change hardware, you can run the Wave Profiler so MC finds whatever new device you install.
Just make sure you update the audio device's drivers for your system as soon as you install it. The thing could have been sitting on a shelf for months, even years, and updates should be available to fix bugs and for newer driver versions.
Re:install audio device or MC5 first? (BluesMatt)

Thanks Pete. I figured as much. I'm being extra careful because the last time (in 2007) I dabbled with MC4, when I switched audio drivers (because of severe latency) my sound card NEVER worked again (I could never figure out how to reinstall the original audio driver). Major upset and frustration. This time around, I'll use an external audio interface and backup my entire system first before installing anything.

Re:install audio device or MC5 first? (Peter Rabbit)

Actually, it doesn't really matter because you can always change audio cards and then select which drivers you want to use from within MC. But since you do have a choice at this point I would probably install the sound card first and then MC as it may save an extra step or two for you.

Pete
install audio device or MC5 first? (BluesMatt)

Hello all,

As I prepare to dive into MC5 and using a new audio interface, I'm reading the Getting Started guide from the Owner's page and a question came to mind. Should I install my audio device first and then install MC5 (when MC5 runs the first time, it will scan for audio devices and should find my interface automatically).

Thanks
