BTW:

The discount being offered is 179.00 for the software.

But as Guitarhacker mentioned you can join BMI for free (which is something you should do anyway if you intend to sell your songs) and then use their discount code to buy MasterWriter for 199.00

So the discount for attending the seminar is an extra 20 bucks.

However this does not include any updates to the software once it's purchased.

As I mentioned in my above post, I wouldn't bother attending the seminar unless you're interested in seeing a demonstration of the software and/or are ready to buy it for the discounted price.

It does look like a really cool program and maybe even I could write songs if I had it. He's offering a good deal, but I probably won't get it now. I wish I could get it for my song-writing friend. Oh well...I got a few other things done while listening so it wasn't totally wasted. :-)

Just finished attending the seminar/webinar. Here's my own personal take on it.

Well...if you're interested in watching a 30 minute infomercial about MasterWriter software then you're in for quite a treat!

But if you're interested in learning anything about writing songs then you're in for quite a dissappointment!

I already knew how to use the software because I downloaded the demo version and played with for a month.

Although I truly think MasterWriter software is an incredible tool to use for writing, the seminar was totally lame. He tells a cute story at the beginning and then launches directly into to infomercial.

We were lead to believe that he was actually going to give us tips and advise about songwriting.

His tip for becoming a successful songwriter is to "write a good song". Well...OK then.

Kinda rude though that someone actually logged off during his presentation and sent a public message that said, "Thanks for wasting my time!" Although I have to admit I was thinking the same thing but I would never do that. " />

Anyway, just my take on the webinar/seminar for songwriting.

Masterwriter.... great program!

I have the registered version. It is quite useful when writing lyrics. With the built in rhyme dictionary and the other things...it is very useful. I have used it and it has helped me find a rhyme that took the song into an interesting direction.

In addition, the program comes with one year subscription to SONGUARD service. A quick easy, cheap method to establish date of creation on secure servers.... instead of $45 a pop for a copyright. I use this extensively. If a song of mine gets cut/published, the publisher will pay for a copyright after I sign the song over to them..... so all I really need is the date of creation proof. I deal only with legitimate song publishers so I am not very worried about somebody stealing the song.

I think...well last time I saw.... MW was $300 bucks or so. Hang on after you do the demo and they will come back with a "discount" offer. OR.... join BMI for free, and as a BMI member, get the code that lets you buy it for $199.00

If you write lyric... it is a worthwhile investment.

I think it's good info to have passed along, thanks Pete. I also am glad they moved it, as it should be available for a longer period than the MC forum, but not sure why they moved it to Songs rather than, say, Techniques or to Coffeehouse.   But, lots of good info in there and in Shad's case no, I don't think this is spam, it's more on-topic that a lot of us could benefit from, and like Pete said it's not like he works for them or is promoting their product.
Pretty impressive list of stars who currently use MasterWriter, I even saw one of my all-time favorites, Jimmy Web. I got a book of his, about crafting songs, and it has been extremely helpful. Unfortunately for me, writing songs has been a lot easier than recording decent tracks and then trying to mix them! And yeah, I already have 1 or 2 of the "dummies" books but there's only so much you can teach a dummy.....!   " />
Actually in one of these other threads, Herb made a great post about a discovery that changed his recording, and I've been going through the same thing in this past week. Create tracks in which the instrument drops in and out at times, freeing up the space for other things like vocals, to come through. I've been finding that really, I had much more to learn from the initial "Tracking" step than even the Mixing step.
I even used envelopes for the first time a couple days ago and sheesh! What a cool thing to see and hear working properly. This proccess is like mountain climbing - you can kill yourself trying to keep up with those who are ready for Mt. Everest - I'm sticking to the little sandpiles for now!   Who knows, in another month I may even be ready to try to create a buss - shades of going back to RobertB's tutorials!    " />    Happy songwriting everyone!

It's funny...as a child, and even through high school, I was ridiculed and bullied because I was skinny, scrawny, and under-developed. I was always the last one to be picked for teams.

Immediately after high school I started weight training. After 35 years of sweat and determination I developed a physique to be admired. But now I get ridiculed and bullied by folks who are skinny, scrawny, and under-developed.

Isn't life ironic? " /> However these life experiences give me plenty of material for songwriting. " />

I guess there's one opinionated fellow in this forum who's just so good he don't need no stinkin' help. Funny though, I've never seen his name on any top 40 list.

And as far as the other comment...well...life's too short to sweat the small stuff.

Anyone can improve their appearence and can do so without chemicals. Those who are too lazy would rather ridicule those who have worked hard at it than to drag thier own butts into a health club. I suppose it's easier to ridicule and degrade others than improve one's self. " />

and he doesn't work for Masterwriter, he was just passing on info about their webinars. if the mods thought he was violating the TOS then they would have deleted the post instead of moving it, right?

I received this e-mail today about an online seminar for songwriting that I thought some of you might be interested in. I think it could be quite educational and helpful.

Most of ya'll know I don't work for Masterwriter and this isn't a post to promote or endorse them. (Although I do think their software rocks!) I just thought some of you might find it interesting and perhaps might like to check it out.

I attended a similar type of web seminar for Cakewalk once and found it to be very helpful. You just sit and watch the whole thing right from your computer! Pretty cool, right?

With a career spanning 50 years in the music industry, Barry DeVorzon has written many hit songs, won Grammy and Emmy Awards, and composed music scores for many top movies and TV shows. DeVorzon also created a highly successful record label,Valiant, and publishing company, Tamerlane, both of which he ultimately sold to Warner Music.
As a songwriter, DeVorzon is best known for writing the classic instrumental hits “Nadia’s Theme” (from The Young And The Restless TV series) and “Theme From S.W.A.T” (which was a #1 pop hit). Early in his career, he formed the group Barry & The Tamerlanes and wrote their hit, “I Wonder What She’s Doing Tonight.” In addition, DeVorzon wrote the hits “Bless The Beasts And The Children” for the Carpenters, and “In The City” for the Eagles.
