Yeah... that's what the shared folders for. However, when you do the default un-install, I don't think any of those DXI plugins are deleted from the shared DXI folder. And, the registry entries are definitely not deleted.

If someone doesn't want MC or Sonar installed any longer;[such as the author of this thread] they can copy the contents of the shared DXI folder just in case something is deleted and simply restore the contents that were deleted. The registry entries for DXI plugins are rarely ever deleted with an un-install. Most programs never delete program folders.... so using a backup of the plugs should work.

BTW Robo... did you try switching to the ROBO-Blue forum theme at the top right?

I use more than one DAW, and i leave MC3 and MC5 on my drive cause it gives me access to the synths and effects for both those programs and others that use similar plugins.

Interestingly i can use all the cake stuff in Powertracks, and all the PG stuff in cake, and both are available in one of my other DAW softwares. Seems they all have some interesting features, and therefore worth having.

Side note: TTS-1 only amounts to 13mb. Dropzone has about 200mb. Sound center is about 568mb. The shared plugin folder is around 30mb. What plugs do you normally use? FYI... Sound center uses .Flac audio files for a smaller file size!

I can see wanting to un-install programs you're likely to never use anymore. CW DAWS install a number of redundant files in more than 1 account on your system if you have multiple ones. I've deleted numerous crap files, even audio loops that I didn't know were installed. Some programs ask whether you want the installation for all accounts or just the Administration account. Of course... CW doesn't offer that option?

I've had SHS6, Sonar6 STUDIO [full versions] and Sonar7 & 8 demo versions installed at the same time and found the same templates, midi loops, audio loops folders etc... duplicated on all accounts instead of having a shared folder for the accounts. Why install pointless redundant files? Also, MC5 automatically installs Audio Creator LE whether you want it or not.

Went off topic..." /> but, I have Sound Center installed without MC5. All you have to do is copy the folder to your regular vst folder and scan it because it's a vsti plugin. As for the DXI plugs... it's a shared folder so they may not be un-installed automatically. I think they're normally left intact in case you re-install MC or Sonar. I have some things you can try if it is.

I don't think that cakewalk is really that "huge" myself. I have Sonar 6PE, Sonar 8PE and Music Creator 5 all insatlled on my hard drive. the Cakewalk folder under Program Files (which includes all of the softsynhts, plugins, etc) is only 16.1G. I put all of the library content on another hard drive, tho, so that may be what you're worried about and if so, those are part of the softsynths, so you'd need them anyway.

and if you believe 16G is a large footprint, that's nothing in comparison to the price of today's hard drives!

Just doing research at this point, but I may go down an alternate path, but I really like the softsynths.

Sonar's a pretty huge program and MC5 is too. Are you saying most of that is the softsynth stuff?

Dang, all this time I thought I was talking to an actual Beagle!! :)

why would you want to do that? if you're not using sonar/MC but you're using the softsynths just leave them there and they don't cause any problems if they're not being used. they take up a little hard drive space, but that shouldn't be a problem - if it is then you need a bigger hard drive anyway.

Can I delete MC5 (and now Sonar) from my machine but NOT delete the softsynth portions of the software to allow me to use it with other recording apps?
I doubt I could do this with Session Drummer, but I use another sw drum program.
