(57Gregy)

Pete's right. The track input needs to be changed to Left. Glad you figured it out.
Real microphones are best for recording because, as Guitarhacker wrote, the computer sees the USB mic as another sound card, possibly causing conflicts with the onboard sound card. Both of them want to be the Timing Master. Switching to ASIO mode can side-step that issue, sometimes, since few stock sound cards use ASIO drivers, but I think you should start looking at better audio interfaces and mics to see how much you'll need to save.
Or which one to ask for as a present during the upcoming holiday season. <img src="http://forum.cakewalk.com/upfiles/smiley/s4.gif" alt="" data-smiley="" />
Re:Playback is panned to the left! (Guitarhacker)

Since you are using a mic without an external interface... you might need to go into the windows mixer and adjust the levels there. I'm no expert on this aspect of MC5 but looking in there and checking the levels for input might not hurt.

In an older cake platform I used, I had to do that every time I switched from recording to mixing..... what a pain it was.

I won't go into it too much, but USB mics do present some problems in ease of use with Cake platforms..... not impossible to use..... but you need to be aware of the issues. Main reason.... you are using 2 "soundcards" the one in the desk and the usb itself is seen as a SC.
Re:Playback is panned to the left! (Peter Rabbit)

I believe the MXL 990 is a condensor mic and requires phantom power to make it work properly. In this case I think you'd need to run the mic through a pre-amp with phantom power.

I'm not sure how USB mics actually work. I don't know if it sends the signal to your soundcard's internal pre-amp before sending it into the MC program or if it sends that signal directly to the program as a line in signal.

You might want to check the control panel of your soundcard and try increasing the input slider for the mic. This wouldn't be done on the track's setting but on the control panel of your soundcard.

Pete
Re:Playback is panned to the left! (tee_mac_042000)

Cool gotcha I figured it out! Thanks for the help . . . . . if I needed to increase the input volume as will because its barely picking me up would I do that on that same track as well or some other setting?
Re:Playback is panned to the left! (Peter Rabbit)

I think Greg means to look at the "Input" of the track on which you're trying to record and set that track's input to Left.

Pete
Re:Playback is panned to the left! (tee_mac_042000)

Thanks! When I change the input settings am I going to the ASIO panel, Music Creator Audio Options, or somewhere on my desktop settings to change the input?
Re:Playback is panned to the left! (57Gregy)

A common problem. Your input for the mic should be Left, not stereo. I don't know what your inputs are for the USB mic, but for most inputs you have Left, Stereo or Right. See if you can select the left input.

Playback is panned to the left! (tee_mac_042000)

I currently installed Music Creator 5 on my desktop. I initially tried recording with it with my USB MXL 990 Mic and it was fine. Only thing I noticed was the terrible latency. To resolved that issue someone recommended using the ASIO driver. I installed that and it was perfect latency minimized to its full potential . . . . . only problem is the playback vocals are all PANNED TO THE LEFT! When I change the audio settings back to normal the panned effect cease to exist but I have to deal with the latency. Switching to the ASIO driver the latency is problem is eliminated but I have to deal with the playback being panned all to one side? What am I missing here?
