Do this:
Click Options | Audio | Advanced. Set your Driver Mode to WDM/KS. If you do not see Driver Mode, make sure the box next to “Always use mme interface” is NOT checked. Click OK and restart the program. If prompted, allow Wave Profiler to test your hardware.
Next, Click Options | Audio:
On the Drivers tab:
Make sure your Tascam card is selected under both inputs and outputs. Deselect any other drivers that may be in the list. If you make any changes, click OK and restart the program.
On the general tab:
Make sure one of your Tascam card drivers is selected as Playback Timing master. Click OK. Restart the program if prompted.
Finally, all audio playback will occur from the Tascam itself. Make sure you hook speakers or headphones hooked to its outputs.

ive downloaded the latest driver and changed the driver mode but now it doesnt even let me play anything and doesnt detect my interface

thank you - we MUST have that kind of information before we can begin to help. have you downloaded the latest drivers for the US-122L for winXP from Tascam? if not, do so and install them.
then try changing to ASIO driver mode
OPTIONS>AUDIO>DRIVER MODE = ASIO.
click APPLY.

what soundcard are you using? what computer specs?

allright thankyou...yeah there really is not any problem with my recording but i was told it would improve the sound...even if i keep the buffer side high there is still some cracks and sounds a little bit in the background...so how could i improve that please?

Yea, what is your sound card and what are your pc specs. If your using onboard sound chips, then thats your problem, there no good with low latency

Who said that? use what ever settings works for you. If your not having any problems, like you just said above, then dont change a thing.
Low latency is only needed if your triggering soft synths or using input echo. I would still invest in an audio sound card, if your using an onboard chip. You'll notice a vast improvement.

I use sonar 7 and i have my buffer size all the way to the right(Safe) and i can still record and everything but its suspose to be all the way to the left(fast) but whenever i put it all the way to the left the whole playback sounds horrible(slow and makes weird noises) Help!
