sorry, I thought you already had it. Besides the great sounds - I think trilian *is* like loading about 5 or 6 versions of Trilogy (which I would never think of doing) to get all the articulations etc. " /> It's just offering us more possibilities " /> I agree with other posters that freezing and using lite versions is a good way to go. The thing is - Trilian will be around for a long time (hell, I've been using Trilogy for something like 6 - 7 years, I think) - so computers will get more powerful, and we'll eventually move to 64 bit etc.

Oh well , that's just my £0.02.

I've been using trilian on xp pro, on a 4 Gig quad core with sonar 8.5.2 and it works fine. the mega sized sample libraries load and play, although you'd need to freeze them if once your project gets bigger. i've been using the lite versions of the patches and they work fine.

Freddie H, I appreciate that the one purchase would cover me for the future, as well. But, I'm just not interested in moving to Win7 and 64 bit until at least one service pack has gone by. Also want to allow some calendar time for drivers to get solid, etc. Lastly, don't want to create too much extra work for myself having to go back to a zillion software companies to beg them to let me activate my apps on a new box.

Having said that, I'm willing to endure a little inconvenience if Trilian at least works some. Maybe have to freeze some tracks along the way, etc. But, it at least has to work some or there's no point in tying up the money before I build a new machine.

JB, thanks -- it sounds as though it's not hopeless. As I mentioned, I have no intentions to run Omnisphere at this point. Just looking for some more bass flexibility for jazz, funk, and rock charts I want to work on. I'm mostly interested in instrumental pieces (no vocals) -- bass is even more important/prominent to me that it might otherwise be (although I always love a great bass line). Thanx for the response....I'm really tempted to pop now....wish I could hear from another couple of folks that are successfully using it. Trilian is a lot of bucks....

Well, I can't say with any authority whatsoever but I think Trilian is causing sketchyness with other programs due to it's memory hogging. Since I replaced Trilian for Trilogy in my startup "Normal" template I've had all kinds of "can't allocate enough memory" type dialogs from other programs (particularly Kontakt 4) I'm trying to run. I use XP Pro with 4 gigs RAM on an Intel Dual Core 2.6 32 bit box. Trilian sounds amazing but you have to remember if your loading a fully articulated multi in it's like loading 8 instances of the old Trilogy, give or take. I'm swapping back to Trilogy in my Normal template today just for starting projects. We'll see if it makes any real difference in performance. I'll keep ya posted.

I would say - go for it. It works fine for me with a Q6600 quad core, XP SP3, 4GBRAM - together with Superior 2 (with a reasonable sized kit). The only problems I've had so far is trying to rin Trilian *and* Omnisphere together with Superior and a few other things. It still works, but I had to fiddle around with "out of memory" messages, lots of crases etc.

All Spectrasonics plugins are in full Native 64bit. You will need X64bit for Spectrasonics products because the pretty much load everything into RAM.
Of course it run on XP32bit too but you will run out of memory pretty soon. Especially if you use all 3 plugins Omnisphere, Stylus RMX and Trillian...

Windows 7 x64bit and VISTA SP2 x64bit is ready for use and very stable. Windows 7 x64bit is a perfect choice working with mulimedia, so you don't need to wait until summer...

I've been reading threads in here, KVR, and Harmony Central for days. I can't seem to convince myself one way or the other on the whole "Trilian uses too much memory" subject.

Is anyone here *comfortably* using Trilian in a Windows XP environment? Sonar 8.5.2, 4 Gig RAM, Core 2 Duo at 2.4 GHz. Three hard drives (C: for programs, D: for Sonar projects and audio, E: for samples). I would want to use a few other toys -- EZ Drummer, TruePianos and/or Lounge Lizard, Dim Pro, Garritan JABB....depends on the song, of course. Might use Stylus RMX instead of EZD sometimes. I do not have (and do not plan to get) Omnisphere.

I don't want to do 64-bit until at least next summer. If Trilian breaks the back of 4 Gig XP at this time, I'll just wait to buy it until I finally build that killer Win7 machine.
