Hey Ron, you've been pretty busy!

Slash and burn - less 'classical' than many of yours, this has a definite soundtrack vibe, i love the percussion in this piece.
it'd be great to hear it played in a symphony hall somewhere!

octagonal I - i found hard work. whilst i appreciate the effort, there just wasn't any melodic hook to keep me engaged. The string quartet make a great noise, almost too big in some ways!
octagonal II - this was easier for me to listen to, more rhythmic interest as well as melodic. not that anyone will be humming it in the shower.

Agitated - probably my favourite of the three i've listened to today. Dramatic but not showy, perhaps the scoring isn't quite as vibrant as Slash, but i love the big deep chords formed from bass/cello, and the brass is weighty too. Is this piece a standalone or maybe the slow movement of a longer piece?

I love the tunes. That's pretty much all I can say... I wish I could write orchestral music as I love to listen to it, maybe one day. Well I have made a retro rock tune and that was far from my comfort zone and now I'm mastering an instrumental progg-jazz acoustic album so maybe I shouldn't hold myself back. Somehow it feels like the sound of Dim Pro and freeware just wont cut the cake but listening to your music is just so inspiring! Again, your tunes are awesome!

I played this for my mother as she came over and first she said that Agitated reminded her a little of Mahler (but smoother) and when playing Slash and Burn she said she thought it was as good as Philip Glass and Arvo Pert.

It has got to be so fun to have such high quality instrumentation to work with. It makes any composition sound fantastic, WHICH IS NOT TO SAY that this is the only reason your "Slash and Burn" sounds great, but I can just relate to the difference of using high quality sounds.

I love the composition. Very movie-score. I like movie-score.

What sound is the 'squeaky iron gate'? :-)

Do you have any commercial projects you're working on?

Hey Ron
Im all about the percussion and this was ear candy. The arrangement was wondreful on this piece. The mix sounds so rich and thick. Great use of panning and the stereo spectrum really fills the room. So much that the cymbal crashes made me jump. Sounded just like they were in my studio. AWESOME piece!

The 'strolling' Stormdrums (Godzilla? Earthquake?) in this piece are enticing and excellent ... and really solidfy this piece.

The non-pompous Choirs is subtle and orchestrates exceedingly well.

I see you've used Ra as well for an exotic eastern vibe (my wife is Chinese). You're the 1st one I know to actually use Ra. (But I don't get out a lot).

A wonderful and inspiring piece on 1st listen. Thank you!

I did remove a few of the Percussive Vox but not sure if I lowered the volumes on them. I may have just because another of the same type was causing a few clips here and there and then didn't go back and raise their velocities or CC11.

Ian I have done a ton of work on the first one since I posted it and think I fixed some of your points.

It's funny that you like the first half of OP better just because others have told me the opposite. That's the nature of music.

The percussion doesn't bother me anymore but it sounds like you changed the mix a lot?

Did those percussive male voice things used to be a lot louder? IMO they need to be. In some ways I think this sounds 'prettier' than the first mix... I'm not sure that's a good thing. I'm not sure this has the energy of that first mix... although to be honest, I only listened once the first time. It's still a good piece - I mention these as minor nits only!

I love the little art pieces you have for OP and AT.

Reminds me of eastern european post industrialists "Laibach" a lot. This is magnificent Ron. You should be earning big bucks for your music if there was any justice in this world.

This is my new fave of your tracks so far and that's saying something when i love all of them.

Listened to Slash & Burn - really enjoyed it too. I could easily imagine this in an epic movie, 'Troy' or similar. Huge sound, really powerful.

Re. S&B - Some of the drums and percussion in the beginning sound like they need a bit more reverb... they sound like they're not in the same place as your main orchestra.

Anyway, really cool unique soundscape. I really love this piece.

I really like the 1st part of OP - It sounded like this really intense swirling motion around that repeating motive - the one with the long held note that falls off. The first part made sense to me and I found it mesmerizing. but the 2nd half... I couldn't really follow it... at least on 1st listen. But the 1st part has a really cool immediacy to me. Really well done.

As always, I'm impressed.

I have actually composed 3 pieces since I last visited here. But of course that is way too much to expect all to listen to. But the three pieces are :

Slash and Burn

This piece uses EWQL Cellos and a Duduk and Basuri from EWQL RA, along with EW's SD2 and EW's Symphonic Choirs.

Octatonal Projections:

is a Math based String Quartet using my favorite Octatonic scale. If you don't like the opening then you will probably not like the piece. It is not for everyone.

Agitated Trepidation in a Hostile World

is a more classically based piece that again uses EWQLSO.
