The e-commerce functionality is tested and working reliably. File downloads are working smoothly and we are now very well capable of handling extremely high amounts of traffic and downloads.

This year was Orange Tree Samples' second Group Buy, and we had more than twice the number of members we had in our first Group Buy, last year. We believed that our server and bandwidth would be capable of handling the expected traffic. However, what we found was that the traffic spike was far beyond our expectations. After the initial spike in traffic, we added an additional alternate server, to spread the load from our main server. However, that was not sufficient to handle the incoming traffic and our site was regularly having outages. (We are working with our web hosting provider to investigate the possibility that the issues with our server were the result of a denial of service or server flooding attack on the Orange Tree Samples website, intended to slow down or stop our server.) It was at that point that I made the difficult decision that it was best to take our website offline until we could be confident that our customers would be ensured of a smooth, trouble-free ordering and downloading process. I contacted Amazon to set up an arrangement to use their servers from this point on, which are extremely well prepared and tested to handle traffic spikes far beyond what we have received during this Group Buy. As it has taken some time to get our files and ordering system set up with Amazon, I am happy to say that all systems are now working properly -- far better than they ever have -- and can easily handle ten times the traffic we could handle prior to this time.

While this experience was by no means something any developer or business that depends on the Web would wish for, I want to share that it brought out the best in Orange Tree Samples customers. From emails to PMs to posts I received, I was really quite moved by how supportive Orange Tree Samples customers were during this very stressful situation for both of us. In return for all of your patience and loyalty, we will be issuing everyone who has taken part of this Group Buy already, or at any point from the start of the Group Buy until the end of the discount period, a $40 USD Orange Tree Samples Store Credit towards the purchase of our next sample library, Evolution Acoustic Guitar (steel string acoustic guitar), expected for release in late July 2010. For anybody who might have visited the site and left, I will also extend this offer to anyone who purchases at any time during the Group Buy discount period. Also, the Group Buy discount will be extended until June 15, 2010 at 11:59 PM GMT.

I thank you for your support and understanding and look forward to a smoother finish to this year's Group Buy.

Sincerely,
Greg
President
Orange Tree Samples

Re:Orange Tree Samples announces GROUP BUY, Evolution Electric Guitar (gregjazz)

Here's an update on the latest news. This latest problem is due to my actual webhost for the website -- I'm in contact with them, trying to figure out why the website is down, because it's not due to traffic this time. I have moved all the downloads to the new Amazon S3 server, which people have reported to be extremely fast. The website was starting to revert to its normal speed, and then suddenly every page went blank -- almost as if somebody disabled the web port at the server. I'm in communication with them, and hopefully we can get it sorted out once and for all today.

Re:Orange Tree Samples announces GROUP BUY, Evolution Electric Guitar (gregjazz)

For anybody who has purchased products from the Orange Tree Samples website, but unable to download the sample libraries due to the server slowdown, please email me (greg AT orangetreesamples DOT com), and I will send you temporary download links on an alternate server.

I'm currently working out an arrangement using Amazon's reliable and fast Amazon S3 service to host the download files separately from the website, in order to avoid the server slowdown problem in the future.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, and I'm working hard to correct the server issue as soon as possible.

Re:Orange Tree Samples announces GROUP BUY, Evolution Electric Guitar (gregjazz)

Hi,

I'm so sorry for the problems that you're experienced, caused by the heavy traffic on the website. This Group Buy has been a tremendous success for Orange Tree Samples, with more than twice the amount of people we had in last year's Group Buy. I can certainly see from all of the posts, PMs and emails I've received that there's a great deal of anticipation around getting your products as soon as possible, and specifically, around the release of our new Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry library.

Even more, due to a number of requests I've received to extend the Group Buy discount a little longer, I've decided to extend the 50% OFF discount an additional week. So, for anyone who wasn't able to join by our original deadline, I have good news -- we will now be extending the Group Buy discount of 50% until June 6, 2010. Purchase any sample libraries from the Orange Tree Samples website and you'll automatically receive 50% OFF on your order.

That means that if you signed up for the group buy and want to get a headstart by ordering before you receive the official email, you can do that!

I also want to take a moment out to say that I am extremely appreciative for all of your support in making this group buy, the launch of Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry and Orange Tree Samples a success.

Now, I'm eager to hear your feedback and music with your new sample libraries! Enjoy.

Greg

P.S. If you're upgrading to Evolution Electric Guitar from Strawberry or Strawberry Extended, I've already sent you an email with your discount code. If you haven't received it yet, please check your spam folder, since sometimes emails accidentally end up there.

Re:Orange Tree Samples announces GROUP BUY, Evolution Electric Guitar (Ham N Egz)

Darn it Greg .. Here's a copy of his post from KVR:

"Okay, the high quality version is still being processed by YouTube, but here's a performance video demo of Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQPmDlp6yJ8

I want to make a voice-over version of it too, so I can explain stuff. Well, if you're in the latter group, I wouldn't worry too much. I think this one is certain to hit the highest discount level by Sunday, and most likely within the next few hours, which means Evolution will only cost $99.98 (if my math is correct!). Considering that it's list price is $199.95 and I think the previous Strawberry Extended library was priced at, I think, $179.95, and Evolution adds a chord strumming rhythm guitar engine and more than 1 GB of samples made especially for chord strums and other improvements on top of Strawberry Extended, it's an incredible deal. I actually sold my copy of RealStrat several weeks ago because of Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry and I'm now putting my copy of RealGuitar up for sale (PM me if interested) because Orange Tree Samples' is planning on releasing an acoustic guitar for the Evolution Acoustic Guitar line in the next couple of months.

I own most of the other Kontakt electric guitar sample libraries on the market as well as a lot of the VSTs and it's now been more than one year since I first started urging Greg of Orange Tree Samples to make this product after getting his original Strawberry library for Kontakt (if you search on eDrummist and guitar on KVR, you can probably find threads and posts of mine going back to 2002 on this topic!). I even put together a plan and assessed the marketplace showing that there was a gap in the market for a very high end, ultra-realistic guitar sample library with advanced chord strumming capabilities that allowed users to create any type of chord, not just a set amount of pre-recorded strums locked into certain tempo ranges. I thought Greg / Orange Tree Samples would be best qualified to make this product of all the developers in the marketplace that I am aware of based on the sample quality and scripting of Strawberry and their bass libraries -- in a way, I kind of sought Greg out to make my dream electric guitar library product with strumming capabilities that I've been hoping for since I had my first DAW. So, since then, I've actually worked on the naming of the product, the logo, the product copy, the press releases, etc., so I don't think there is anyone more eager than me for Evolution to be released. I've even been hounding Greg for a beta copy, but no luck! I have to wait like everyone else!
Re:Orange Tree Samples announces GROUP BUY, Evolution Electric Guitar (planetearth)

You're right--this is a great deal on a great-sounding library. The group buy actually ends Sunday, May 30 at 11:59AM (one minute before noon), right? There are 31 days in May, and I wanted to be sure people don't think they have until midnight on the "last day in May".

2. There are no samples in this library from left-handed guitars, hm? That's too bad.

1. Oops, looks like you caught my mistake! I meant "PM", not "AM" of course. But I guess not too many people will be complaining about the extra 12 hours to get the GB past 200 for the 50% OFF discount (which I'm confident it will reach).

2. You know, the funny thing is that I AM left-handed, but I prefer playing on right-handed guitars and basses because I like my dominant left hand to be doing all the fretting work. :)
Re:Orange Tree Samples announces GROUP BUY, Evolution Electric Guitar (Ham N Egz)

Well if its GMT or Sidereal time doesnt matter.. he "may" not make the 50 percent off mark but as I stated earlier, Ill pull the trigger at 40 off

In a sense, its a "boutique" library in that he doesn't have teh marketing of the "big boys" he relies on forums like this AKA as grass roots effort.

SURE I would like to see Greg have the same response as the IK MM 6 for 1 gb BUT i WILL support him and buy his product because

it sounds very very good

he is doing it all by himself(I think

I am, without getting PC or nationalistic, supporting a home town guy
