Talk me thru this please? (spark240)

Ok, midi is not my thing, I have a Roland XP80 connected via midi to my VS100, I can play all the synth sounds form Sonar and all that jazz, but I cant seem to get drum sounds working ? I just want to press the keys on the XP and get drum kits or program drums in sequencer style, I have the keboard set to midi ch. 10.
