It may help to re-install Dim Pro 1.2 from your Sonar 8 disc.

I tired all of the solutions suggested, last being uninstall of 1.2 along with registry edits. The additional content finally loaded but both X1 and 8.5.3 returned synth failed to load errors. When bitflipper posted today that he was reloading 1.2 from Sonar 8 disc I figured it was worth a try. So far both Dim Pro 1.2 and 1.5 are loading.

Too late for me - already nuked old installation with dxi and installed new (with new serial number / reg code). Could I install just the dxi from the Sonar 8 disc without really screwing it up? If so, I assume I should use the old serial # / code for the dxi installation?

Hello - my first post...

Too late for me too. I still have Sonar 6 Producer which had DimPro 1.2 + expansion packs running as a DXi. I have loads of tracks that used DimPro. Installed X1 Producer from DVDs and found the "patch" for upgrading 1.2 to 1.5, and ran it. Things whirred and hummed but the result was no DimPro 1.5. I could not see any difference between the 1.2 that did appear and the old 1.2, so I guessed it was the same (old) install.

Then I tried uninstalling DimPro 1.2 using Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs, and it would not uninstall (because running the patch had changed it to a VSTi, and these don't install or uninstall like normal programs - typically you can just copy a dll and it's there, or delete it and it goes away).

If you're having the same DXi-VSTi problem DO NOT follow the next (stupid) step. A way to remove programs that will not uninstall is to remove their entries from the registry, which I did. I was then able to do a fresh install of 1.5, which then appeared in Sonar.

Now comes the crucial, horrible bit: When I load in an old track that used DimPro, Sonar cannot find it and gives a message that the (DimPRo) plugin may be missing or improperly installed on your system, and "The original plugin state is saved by stand-in plugins and will be restored if you save the project and subsequently load it on a system where the plugins are properly installed".

A bit of searching around demonstrates there is no way to migrate the millions of settings I had in Dim Pro 1.2. The only solution, it seems, is to re-install Dimension Pro 1.2 as a DXi and carry on using it on legacy tracks, and to use 1.5 only on tracks started post-X1.

I would have thought the Roland / Cakewalk engineers would have developed and tested the patch to cope with old DXi installs, or at least put a big notice on the readme file.

UPDATE STEP 1: Dim Pro 1.0 reinstalled as DXi from DVD, 1.2 updater, expansion packs etc all added: Sonar X1 finds it and it works with legacy tracks (phew): About to try installing 1.5 VST alongside... fingers crossed...

OK... I finally got them and installed them... what a drag that I had to d/l all three to get the 3rd... but it's up and running...

Mine is correctly running 1.5 and the new presets appear to be available... I only quickly tested and they do work...

But as was said here earlier, I wonder if I'm gonna run into trouble with any later updates as I'm still using my old DimPro serial#... My store account shows both so.........?

This is getting very painful. I've never had even close to the issues I'm dealing with on this install...

I just downloaded the expansion packs 1-2 for a 3rd time... Now that it's finally allowing an unzip, it hangs at the end of the unzip and crashes the pc?!?

i have same issue.   dm pro wont load in X1 but i have all the updates and expansion packs working in 8.5.3 PE    lil annoying but I'm still in WTF am I doing mode so it's not like i'm gonna be taking on any real prodject for a while till i can get the hang of this well enough to try to pitch X1 to the music dept. dean. I prolly wont get to benifit from taking a class since semester starts in jan., but maybe by the summer semester I could have an X1 lab avilable.. when will X1 be ready for academic packs? hopefully, I can sell him on using a lab for X1 ( bout 20 pc's +- )
I think after all the kinks are ironed out, X1 has an actual chance to overtake our ProTools studio..

Well, it found the serial number only once in the registry, so I changed it. DimPro 1.5 on the standalone desktop works and has the new serial no and calls itself 1.5 on the about tab/panel.

In X1 however, DimPro now comes saying it's 1.2 (on the about tab) and then asks me to register - with the correct (new) serial number in place. I then try to register with the new registration code and it tells me it's the wrong code. Confusing and a pain as I do use Dimension Pro a fair bit.

You don't need to delete the registry keys. Just change the old serial numbers to the new ones. Three edits total. If you cut and paste it can be done in less than a minute.

You can try to delete the keys, I don't know what it'll do then. I suppose you'll be asked for a new registration.
I just replaced the old code with the new one in the three keys. And it works.

So it sounds like the easiest thing is to skip the "additional content" install and just download "Expansion Pack 3" separately from the KB link. (Assuming you're on PE 8.5 with Dim Pro 1.5 and all the previous expansion packs.)

I think I'll go with that unless somebody points out something I've missed.

Thanks for giving a clue on the why !

I did not want to uninstall and reinstall, I have my own tweaks in the multisamples,
so I tried with the registry keys, and IT WORKS !!!!

So, to handle with care and making a backup of your registry....

Either have a search with your old serial number and replacing it with the new one
or direct in these keys (I found 3):

The key is to register 1.5 with the new X1 serial number. The issue is created when running additional X1 content is that the older registrations aren't valid, and the X1 registration isn't properly recognized. Hence the error message.

Wiping all prior installations and updating the serial number clears the problem. Follow the instructions laid out by Don above, and it's fairly straightforward.

Before I uninstall...

I've mostly used DimPro as dxi. I have a lot of half-finished (half-baked?) projects, and I'm not sure which of all of them use Dimension Pro. I would want to open them and see what patches/presets I've used, since that info will disappear after then uninstall of the dxi. Any way short of opening every project in the project folder to find out which projects use which plugs/synths?

You mentioned the DimPro 1.5 installer that you "downloaded for Sonar X1" - where can that be found?

It is the seventh file in the SONAR X1 Producer download list named 04_Dimension_Pro_1_5_Setup.exe. I was hoping that it was a full installer (not a patch requiring an existing 1.2 installation) since the X1 download is a full, standalone product and apparently it is so.

Also, Jonbouy mentioned UNinstalling DimPro - how would I go about that, if there is no entry for it in the Control Panel, and the only installation file I have is the 1.5 update?

Jonbouy mentions how to do this in step 2 of his thread by copying the setup program off of the original DimPro DVD and using it. I didn't have to do that since I had not updated to 1.5 so I'm not sure exactly how to do it. I just uninstalled DimPro 1.2 from the Programs and Features Control Panel applet. Hopefully he will read this thread and provide more details to answer your question. I am also using Win7 x64 and upgraded from SONAR 8.5.3 Producer edition.

Don, thanks for the proposed solution, including Jonbouy's post. I have a couple of questions about it.

I have been running Sonar 8.5 x64 with DimPro 1.5 (which I upgraded from 1.2) on a Win7 x64 machine, then today purchased and installed Sonar X1, and I received the error about DimPro not being installed when I attempted to install the Sonar X1 additional content. My DimPro in X1 is still 1.5, but I noticed that the serial number is still the one that was for Sonar 8.5, not X1. You mentioned the DimPro 1.5 installer that you "downloaded for Sonar X1" - where can that be found? I didn't see a separate installer anywhere, nor can I find it on Cakewalk's site, nor is there a separate download for it in my account section. The only one I have is the 1.5 update which I got when I was running 8.5, and which requires DimPro 1.2 to be present in order to work.

Also, Jonbouy mentioned UNinstalling DimPro - how would I go about that, if there is no entry for it in the Control Panel, and the only installation file I have is the 1.5 update?

I appreciate whatever insight you can give me.
