As A1MixMan stated, Windows 7 64bit running Sonar x64 should run most 32 bit plugins just fine.

But you do want to make sure that your audio interface (and any other hardware with drivers) has 64bit drivers for Windows 7.

Just because some are 32 bit doesn't mean you can't still use them with a 64 bit OS and DAW like Sonar. Bitbridge, and or J Bridge can run them for you. Some work better than others. I know Guitar Rig 4 has a 64 bit version. Just do some research on it. I would look to upgrading to a i7 if you can. And alot of ram too. I think Sonar X1 on Win7 64 bit with and i7 and 12 gigs of ram is a really kick ass system. Mine is at least! As far as Win7, it's been great. No worries there. I would also upgrade from Kontakt 3 to Komplete 7 which includes Kontakt 4 64 bit.

Make sure you have quality 64 bit drivers for all of your hardware.

Thanks, gents. I meant Windows 7 and have corrected the OP.

My main concern is that all those plugs will work. You don't see any issues?

If you can, avoid Vista like the plague and go straight to Windows 7.

Vista is a horrible, un-user friendly OS in my opinion. Xp is better than it for useability.

Windows 7 is basically what Vista should have been, rather than a 'paid for' public beta test.

Afaik, the operating system won't care whether your plugins are 32bit or 64bit. But your host will.

I don't run any of the plugins you do, so I can't comment on those, but I do run a 32bit host & 32bit plugins on Windows 7 x64 with no problems.

Hey Gary,

FWIW if I were in your shoes and about to build or buy a new DAW I would go with Windows 7 64-bit. It's extremely stable and runs X1 and DAW software in general very well.

I'm not an expert on the third-party plugins that you listed, but I believe they are all native X64 (please correct me if I am wrong).

I need to upgrade in order to run X1 (dual core, more RAM). That in itself is no problem, but I think I am at a point now where I have to consider a couple changes that scare me: moving to 64 bit; moving to Windows 7.

I am running Producer 8.0 on XP, 32 bit. I have few problems; none that I cannot work around.

My fear in upgrading to 64 bit and going to Windows 7 is having to reinstall all of my plug-ins. The one's I use frequently and rely on are:

Kontakt 3.0
EZ Drummer
NI Akoustic and Elektrik Pianos
NI B3
NI Guitar Rig 4
Chris Hein Horns
First Call Horns
Melodyne Studio
A bunch of Waves plugs.

Are any of these NOT gonna like 64 bit running W7?

What pitfalls await?

Is it worth it?

I know you are all busy with X1 today, so I appreciate anyone who will take time to give me some advice.
