The Fantom is not showing up in the Soft Synth list. ...maybe I didn't install the Fantom editor. ...will check.

You know, the A-Designs Pacifica streets for almost $2K. All it is is two knobs. If the VS 700R's preamps sounded JUST AS GOOD, frankly, I'd be a bit shocked. That said, I'm not complaining at ALL about the sound of the preamps. ...kinda digging the extras that I didn't have. AND I think they're NOT THAT FAR from the Pacifica!

Have you installed the fantom editor? Just to be shure, manually check if you have a fantom vs folder somewhere (by default on your main drive/program/cakewalk/etc), if so, you should have a .dll file that a rescan should find (I know you already did it but maybe the right folder was not selected...). If not, you can reinstall it by using your main Sonar CD and uncheck everything but "fantom vs" at the end of the installation list.

Hope this give you some hints.

By the way, when you say you "didn't get excited" on the first run, what do you think the vs-R lack? How does it perform compared to your higher-end stuff?

Just currious cause I've never experimented any of the heavy-weight gear you have but for now the VS is by far the best hardware (pres/converters) I've owned so I'd like to know which subjective details (your ears) make it less exciting?

funny thing... I had the VS700R boxed. I took it out yesterday, plugged it in, and the performance issue is gone!... ...kinda odd but... cool..

Can anyone advise how to get the Fantom synth to show up in the soft synth listing? I can access it via a midi track but that doesn't seem to be the way Roland designed it. (and I did re-scan the VST plugins)

Also, did the first session with it. ...didn't get excited but I can't say I got excited with the Mytek until I learned it after a few days.

Hey I've seen this also but was a while ago and I'm struggling to remember the fix... was definitely a set up issue as I recall and not a device issue.... like a major lag.

Rest assured your gear should be ok.... just a config/setup issue I'm sure.... trying to think about it I reckon it was about the time Windows started doing painful things and I got sick of it and just reinstalled it... but my memory is blurry on this now.

Hope you have it sorted by the time you read this.

thanks for the feedback StratRat. I don't have it connected now so I can't really say but I know this much:

I was using the ASIO drivers. No matter the latency, I had the issue of hitting the spacebar and getting the 'this program has stopped responding'. I tried the WDM drivers... and just like the RME could never figure that out...

My computer is a Dell Quad core 6600 with 6 Gig of RAM running under Vista 32. It's been more than adequate with the MultiFace II (running up to 40 tracks at 88/24- with lots of plugins.

I believe the latest drivers I saw were version 1.30.

If someone could give me the order of the drivers, I'd be willing to try installing them in that order.

...and look, I did a substantial amount of research on the quality of a device in this price range. It was down to the new RME 800 UFX and the VS 700R. My gut said the VS but...

If you are using Asio....Try adjusting the Asio performance buffer it will be under the audio tab..then click the asio button. direct the slider towards better performance( to the right ).. Now when doing this It will effect how your real time effects work..Like Amplitube ..the better the performance(more stable) the less real time.... and can cause some real time latency..so adjust accordingly.. I really am so happy with the systems audio quality I hate to see you have to give up on this equipment.. The price in comparison with the (high end) equipment...its a no brainer.. I honestly can say that the pre amps and the converters are awesome!! Not real crazy about the fact you can't make several headphone mixes using direct monitoring..that should have been built in the Direct monitoring system.. Thank god my computer is a monster enough to use input echo to monitor.

Im wondering if you have an IRQ resource issue... What audio drivers are you using?? I'm using asio and I really couldn't direct you in a direction if you were using anything else..There is so many things that it could be....Im afraid it would be over my head to answer.. It would be best to talk to Ryan Munnis (he is the MAN) or some other tech support person.. I'm sure they can get you up running properly.... Don't give up till you talk with support... Cakes support has been so awesome for me I just know they can get you going.. :-) Merry Christmas

...just read that the monitor issue is uncontrollable unless one has the 700C. ...not the end of the world there but the performance issue kinda is...

I got the VS 700R in today.

I spent about four very frustrating hours trying to get it online. I did manage to get playback but I have two serious issues I need to resolve- or it's back to Musician's Friend on Monday. ...but it could be me...

1- I load a project, hit play and all is well. When I hit stop Sonar freezes for at least 10 seconds- maybe more (can't use the mouse or keyboard and get 'this program is not responding message).

2- I didn't get the VS 700C. I downloaded ths 700R I/O utility but it does NOTHING on playback. So I have no way of controlling the level of the monitors.

I'm using Sonar 8.5.3. I download the latest firmware and drivers for the VS 700... or so I think. My PC is a Dell Quadcore 6600 running under Vista 32. It's been pretty smooth system with the RME MultiFace II.

Maybe the only thing I'm doing differently from some of you who've bought the entire system is I already had Sonar 8.5.3 installed.

Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts I'd love to hear it. I like what I was hearing but the performance is a no go for sure. (Didn't even get to check out the mic pres...)
