StorageCraft has actually been around a long time. Symantec used to use an older version of StorageCraft's snapshot driver (at least through Ghost 12, IIRC). I don't know about later versions of Ghost.

That's good to know, thereby they've had years to develop it.

Not knowing about StorageCraft?, it's just me, I spend way too much time in the basement.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your replies :)

I would probably had gotten Acronis by now but the frustrating thing about it is; it supports Win Professional 32, SP2, but for Win 'Home' 32 it does not support SP2, it must be SP3 (been reading the forums over there and reviews of other sites recently)!

I asked about Norton Ghost hoping Symantec did improve; that it no longer had a death-grip hold on the O/S.... I remember years ago I had no choice but to reformat my PC because freaking Symantec would not uninstall and it had it's claws buried deep, reformat was the only way to get rid of the software (Symantec, Full Security Suite), I no longer needed it and wanted to use another (of the same sort) software.

StorageCraft's ShadowProtect, ((Thanks for the suggestion Don)), I hadn't heard of storageCraft, I guess it must be OK though, afterall it does have part of my username in it. I'll ;-)

Storagecraft's ShadowProtect Desktop (http://storagecraft.com/shadow_protect_desktop.php) is superb (IMO) and supports XP through Windows 7.

There is a 30 day free trial if you want to try it out.

I have it set up on my Win7 x64 system to do incremental backups of my system drives twice a day to a 2TB backup drive and I never notice it.

I have had to restore my system once since setting it up, and it restored perfectly.

My favorite feature is the ability to mount any of the backup images into Windows Explorer and have immediate access to the backed-up files without having to restore the image.

+1 to Beagle's comments on Norton intrusion - luckily the old V10 of Ghost was before Norton really got nasty.

On my Win7 64 bit system I switched to the built in Backup & Restore facility. Works fine for me.

+1 to Beagles comments on the intrusion of Norton... I switched to Microsoft Security Essentials for Virii ..

I use acronis. I've used it on winxp and win7x64 without problems.

I can't stand anything by Symantec. Norton used to be the best tools available, but when it became Symantec and no longer controlled by Norton himself the software became bloatware in the worst sense of the word. it installs many "snooper" programs which run memory resident and the anti-virus is the most intrusive of any of the AV programs (I realize you're not talking about AV, but it still speaks volumes about the company's software philosophy)

I've used Ghost 10 for years on WinXP SP3 and SP2 before that. It has saved me more than once and I've also used it to get everything back to a new hard disk. It has some quirks but what doesn't?

Ghost 10 is an old version and Norton does not support it with fixes any more. That's OK with me on my WinXP system. It won't run on Win7 64bit. I tried Acronis Home 2010 on my Win7 64bit system and had to give up on it working. However, many folks love Acronis.

I used to use it, XP, Sp2 Sonar 6-8 & it worked fine. I switched to Acronis about a year ago.

Norton Ghost :

Anyone using this software to backup and recovery (O/S, Drivers and Settings) successfully?

I've asked questions repeatedly in other threads in regards to backup solutions/options and so far I had no replies. That is why I've started yet another thread hoping someone will reply very soon. Thanks!!!

Important Note: my particular setup is XP, 32, SP2 which is best/more solid running Sonar 6 (yes I tried SP3 and it's was not as solid, which is why reverted back to SP2) but Acronis and most other backup software's are not supported and may not work properly on XP 32 SP2.
