This time of year Janet, I'll take what I can get " /> This customer has around 1600 acres that he looks after for stalking/shooting, so there's plenty of work to be done.

My customer, 'Jim the Irishman' sent me on a mission, dismantle & bring back one o' them metal high seats for sitting and shooting deer (see below). Had to drive up the road about 8 miles, through a farm, up a track, through a herd of surly cows, through a gate and park up.

From there the seat was apparently 3/4 mile hike through boggy, marshy, reedy wasteland with woods either side.

First problem...between where I parked the van, and the stile into the woods was a wide ditch..except with all the rain we've had, it was now a river. Nothing for it I thought, I'll have cross the bugger. Found what I thought was the narrowest section, and stepped gingerly in. Missed me footing, 'cos it was deep, and fell straight in. Great start eh? Soaking wet to the waist, freezing cold, welly boots and tool bag full of water.

Debated for a minute and thought, nope, not giving in, I'm doing this.

Had no idea where this high seat was, but ''just keep going'' he'd told me, ''you'll find it eventually'. Eventually was right, took about 30 minutes hard slog to get to it.

Started taking it down from the top as instructed, clambering about in the pouring rain, then gave up and pushed the thing over so I could get at the bolts better. It fell gracefully into the moss, no harm done.

Took it apart no probs..

I'd brought a builders tote bag with me, so started putting the sections into it for dragging back. After about 20 minutes of sweating and swearing, I was getting nowhere, up to me knees in the bog.

Phoned Jim and told him the score, he agreed I ought to get the hell out of there while I still could.

Trudged back to the van, waded back through the river, emptied me wellies, opened the gate and got in the van to head off and...van wheels spinning in the mud...

Another 15 minutes sliding, revving and laying stones under the wheels to get out.

Back through the surly cows and home, frozen.

Desk job, sounding good...

I finally get a few days off next week ... might even find a bit of time to get off the zombie mode and actually enjoy listening to some music ... is the new CHB any good? ... I noticed the comments lasted ... 5 minutes!

Ya. We're not the novelty we once were.

We could hold a fred open for like 12 minutes back in the day.

I got my 20yr thank you from the company a couple of days ago.

I get up at 4:30am and go to work. Get home and work 'till supper and sit down for an hour or so-depending on how late I worked and ate supper and then go to bed. I may get 5 to 6 hours of sleep. Repeat.

So out of 24 hrs I get a couple hours with my family if I'm lucky.

I'm not complaining about working. But the way the system is working a working mans life
flies by and he's left with very little and very little time for the people in his life that he is trying to provide for. I provide to have a home so we can be together...well that's great except we can't be together if there's no time left. There's just no balance in our system is my current view.

Sorry....just not real happy with how the powers that control are controlling...if you want to feed your family.

I also remember when I did bands...people saying how good we were doing (as they knew how much I got paid)...man was that BS too...they didn't consider all the hours of practice nor the traveling and equipment expense. Man when the pay was good one was lucky to
avarage 10 dollars an hour not including the expenses.

Caught in a trap...can't get out...'cause I love you to much baby...now that's got me worried having Elvis tunes in my head I can't shake. I'll be glad when it's tomorrow.

Worked in rain, snow and mud all week, still got tomorrow to go. Relatively speaking it wasn't as bad as last week, 'cos last week I fell in a freezing river.
