Hi yorolpal,

Glad to hear the good news! I'm still enjoying mine as the "A" speakers.

I received an email from them today about isolation pads for the D5's for less than $20.
Also sounds like their doing pretty good because they are currently out of about everything and waiting for another shipment.

Replacements are in and installed and running hot straight and normal. Very detailed midrange, highs the tiniest bit hyped and bass full and tight. Amazing value. Mine are about a foot away from the wall and Im using boundary 2. They cannot get nearly as loud as my KRK V6 Series IIs so when I A/B them I have to allow for that. I thought they would be my new "B" speakers but after listening for awhile I set them as my "A" speakers. They are dandys.

These are now available in the UK. As usual we get ripped off on the price! Current exchange rate should see them at 186 pounds. Adding tax and import duties should take them up to 250 max. So how come they're 349 plus 7.99 shipping?! That's 560.77 plus 12.84 US Dollars!!! I don't normally name and shame but what the heck: Studioxchange what a rip off!!

I received my D5's today. I can't believe how well they were packed with a heavy inner and outer box and foam inserts. The consecutive serial numbers were marked on the inner box and on the monitors.

I really ordered them to use with the laptop to edit midi files but I put them on the main mixing desk just to give them a listen with some reference material and to run some RTA using white noise.

To make a long story short, they are now permanently on the main mixing desk and the old/big/heavy/monitors are probably going in a closet.

I am working in a basically untreated room with paneled walls, drywall ceiling, and carpeted floor. The only room treatment I have is a bed, sectional couch, some drapes, and whatever clothes I leave lying on the floor. I do have room flutter and modal issues around the 125-200hz range. I know the monitors alone can not fix this.

I could not believe my ears as the image separation and clarity of these monitors are unbelievable. I heard things that I can only hear in headphones and that's because I know the material is there. So far I am blown away with these monitors. Best $300 I've spent in a long time. I would highly recommend these monitors to anyone that is mixing at low to medium sound levels, especially in small to medium rooms.

Well...My D5s arrived and I hooked them up and gave them a cursory listen that evening. Wow! Pretty impressive. Very articulate mids...tight bass...highs a little harsh but they haven't been broken in yet and I'm sure that will soften a bit. Killer Diller.

Then....

The next day I had time to completely rewire my monitor situation running my KRK V6 series IIs as my A speakers and the D5s as my B speakers. I then started a/bing and evaluating. First, of course, the KRKs are quite a bit louder at equal gain. Then I found that as I cranked the volume my right D5 would start popping and crackling and breaking up. Not good. As I had re-wired everything I went back and double checked everything and then started switching inputs...even changing speakers to make sure it wasn't anything outside the speakers and that indeed it was that speaker. Which it was. Sigh. I promptly phoned Equator and got Marty on the phone who went over what was happening and how I had been troubleshooting it and said...no probs...we'll send out a replacement right away. Very good company policy. Kudos. On Saturday during some critical isolation on an acoustic bass part I also noticed some definite zzzzzttt in both speakers on hard transient bass notes. You might not notice in a mix but very pronounced in isolation. So I phoned and emailed Marty and told him he should probably send a pair and not just a single replacement. Hope he hasn't sent yet. Would hate for them to have to send two different packages. Did some sleuthing and found that a few others have had the zzzzzzitzing problem and also that Equator has immediately sent a replacement pair.

So...so far, my takeaway is that even though I might have received an intial pair that is defective I needn't worry...Ted and Marty will take care of it poste haste. And I can echo those sentiments above that say these little wonders are exactly that...a wonder!....they simply sound fantastic. And at $300 bucks it's foolish not to get them. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Looks like my D5's will arrive on Monday. Can't wait to try them out and run some RTA on them.

I currently have a Bad resonance around 150hz and need to get it fixed but I think it will require moving things around and not just an additional set of monitors...

Me too! I'd jump on these if I didn't already have 2 monitors in my studio and 1 pair at home. Plus I'm moving so its just a bad time for me to be monitor shopping.

Mine are about 6" from the wall....and I like the bass response as I move about the room to check. I'm getting some GIK panels this week so that should improve things even more.

Has anyone tried these monitors, with the backs, positioned close to a wall? I see they advertise that they can be positioned close to a wall but am looking for some user feedback before I pull the trigger.

Currently I have been using Behringer Truth B2031A monitors (on MoPads) positioned about 6" from the wall and even at very low volumes the low/mid low end still sounds hollow/boomy.

well im happy to say im glad ive found this thread because ive been monitor hunting myself and am just about ready to order a pair of these as well.
i wonder if we can get an advertizment discount for the amount of publicity this thread has done.
for me it was an eye catcher and your reviews along with the price set me off.

Yoro: I really am liking these little guys more and more.......these are are a perfect replacement for people like me who have been accustomed to NS10's for 20 years......and the bass on the D5's are pretty true, imo

Ironically the $800 Dynaudios aren't doing a thing for me....they're going back

Ok kiddies, just got back from a great birthday dinner (sushi, what else?) and am listening to the D5's that arrived this morning. These things kick major ass and I love how the midrange translates.....and best part for me is that the monitors don't have that boomy extra bass (that's really not there) crap that I can't stand in other monitors.......these are $299 a pair....what are waiting for? Get 'em........they are actually "fun" to listen to

Hi Gaffpro,
Your shootout will be very interesting! The Dynaudios are $999/pair vs. $299 for the D5's. The frequency response of the Dynaudios is 45Hz-21kHz (+/- 3dB) and the D5's are 53Hz - 20kHz (+ or - 3dB). Both have the same power.

I think you made the right decision to try out the D5's anyway. It would be great savings if they performed as well. If not, you only pay shipping back to San Diego.

My set was delayed but should ship out today or Monday.

I have a pair of M Audio EX-66's, a lil noisy but do the trick. Then my B set are Yorkville YSM-1s and I have a pair of Fostex PM 0.5s at the office.

Obi: What monitors do you have? I'm waiting for my Dynaudios to arrive but I may get these equators as a "B" source. I thought my JBL LSR2325's were going to be the ticket, but again the bass response is a little too much. I just want something with accurate bass response

Yeah I'm still waiting on a few more reviews and time to go by to see if people still love em after the honey moon phase before buying. That and I already have 2 pairs of monitors....But I want to replace a pair. Or just have 3. :)

Can't wait to hear your report..........I'm getting the Dynaudio BM5 MKll monitors any day now but may get the Equators anyway to make a comparison....for the $, the reviews almost sound too good to be true
