I'm not sure if this will be useful but at least it's worth adding that I am having the same problem. I spent hours getting things sounding right in my mix and then the next day when I opened the project all my Waves plugins had reset to default settings. Many hours of work gone. It is incredibly depressing and I felt completely defeated.

However, I fixed it.

I don't know if this will work for others but I guess it's worth posting just in case. I immediately closed Cakewalk without saving (VERY important: Do NOT save!). Then I started Cakewalk again only this time I gave it a couple of minutes to load everything (some was cached, I'm sure, so it loaded faster than the first time anyway). Then I opened the project. All settings were back.

Last week I was saving while the plugin was open and on the screen (ctrl-S... twice, just to be sure!!) and I thought that worked but then when it happened again last night I came up with that new plan. So now I think it has something to do with plugin DLLs not being fully loaded before loading your project.

I noticed in the grey box in the bottom right corner (right after opening Cakewalk) it mentioned a dll, maybe WavesLib3.103_10.0_Win64.dll (or something similar), so I decided to just wait and make sure all that stuff was fully loaded before opening the project and then it loaded all the settings perfectly.

I have no idea if that will work for anyone else but I HIGHLY recommend: Immediately after opening the project and before doing anything else, check a few important plugins to make sure your settings are there . If not, close without saving and reload slowly.

And if you aren't already doing it, I HIGHLY recommend making a backup of the project folder after you close it for the day!

UPDATE (in case this is ever useful): 2 days later all settings gone again. This time it was because I bought Ozone 8 and got a free one called Youlean Loudness Meter. Neither works in Sound Forge 11 for me. When trying the Youlean one a second time (oddly it worked just ONCE!) it always crashes Sound Forge (disappears off the screen completely) after hitting Preview. After that the Waves settings were gone in Cakewalk.

I found that after I rebooted the computer and loaded Cakewalk and the project again (slowly!) the settings again came back.

Both of those plugins work fine in Cakewalk. (Ozone and it's Assistant are fantastic!)

I am having this same problem with Beatskillz plugin instruments- everything resets to default when I open a saved project.

It's not the GUI the sound is reset to default of the plugin. I will look at VST2-VST3, but it needs to be fixed.

Still happening - Not just waves - Amplitube, Waves Q10, Ren Comp, CLA bass, MV2, GW mixcentric, Schep parallel particles Super Tap, and many others (Not renverb and some others?? not sure why.)

I am not convinced this applies only to waves either. It vseems to be a general VST issue. I have had several projects where synth patches have been lost, particularly after archiving then restoring tracks.

Its a tricky one though. I am yet to reproduce it consistantly.

Come to think of it, I have experienced situations where I've programmed quite intricate patches in Reaktor, recorded the audio and then turned the synth off. Later on I decide I want to revisit the synth and tweak the patch, but when I turn it back on everything sounds totally different to how it was when I first recorded the audio.

Bump, this is still an issue

I'm glad someone is bumping this. I am having huge problems with Waves plugins having their controls reset. It's mainly the SSL-Channel and Q10. I'm really frustrated about it because it's completely destroyed hours of work getting EQ sounding just right. I load the project later and things sound awful. Open the Waves plugins to find many of my EQ settings have been hosed.

This plugin resetting business is quite possibly one of the most frustrating things I have found in Sonar. It's been happening to me for as long as I've used the program. It used to be Native Instruments plugins as well, but they seemed to have fixed that issue. And at one time I was even opening projects to find all instances of the Quadcurve EQ in the ProChannel messed up with crazy EQ boosts or cuts of 16dB in the same frequencies. If you can't rely on your mix settings being saved with the project then the DAW is functionally useless. We really need to get to the bottom of this. I would even advise Waves users who are thinking of buying Sonar to hold off until it's fixed. Let's start reporting this issue again.

I know this is an old thread, but I am experiencing this issues now. I am using the latest SPLAT and Waves builds.
Noticed with Desser, Maxvolume, C4, Maxxbass.

Not just Waves either, some Fabfilter plugs as well (for sure the Pro-DS off the top of my head)

It MAY have something to do with the Upsample settings?

The bug has been fixed and seems to affect only some VST3 plugins which is probably why it wasn't noticed earlier (it broke very recently). The fix should be available later this week if all goes well with testing. The settings are saved OK while you are in the session but when you reload it some parameters get reset to defaults.

Well...anyway you cant use waves vst3 because they just loose their settings once you save and reopen the Project.

I dont know if happens with all vst3 plugs...I would suggest to stay away from vst3 until the patch.

Is this problem only with Waves vst2 AND waves vst3 effects in the same project or is it more general to include waves vst3 and any other manufactorers vst2s? Sorry to ask, but wanted to find out if it happens when Waves vsts3 are mixed with other vst 2s.

I know it will be fixed, just curious.

I would say, dont use any vst3 until the new patch, if you use the vst2 versión from waves it shouldn´t be any problem.

I just want to make sure I understand this correctly. I'm pretty sure I read this entire thread, and understood most of it, but I'm still a little unclear what the actual bug is. My plugins are resetting as well, so I understand that part, but for the time being, is the solution to ONLY use VST2 plugins, and don't use ANY VST3 plugins, until the patch is released later this week? Or is it ok to use VST3 plugins, but just not Waves VST3 specifically?

I have some multitrack drums that I've been mixing for a while in X2, and I don't want to screw something up. I already turned off the "Replace VST2 with VST3" option or whatever, and I THINK that my tracks with Waves VST2 stuff are working, as far as I can tell. But I just don't want to screw anything else up on tracks I've spent weeks working on, by suddenly losing all of my progress.

So... My question is basically... "The temporary solution is to just NOT use Waves VST3 stuff until the patch later this week... correct?" Or is there more to it than that? I just want to make sure I understand WHAT this patch will be fixing (in regards to this specific problem) Thanks in advance for any clarification you can give me.

Actually saving is not the problem. Its when you load back that the values are reset. The bug is already fixed.
Most likely you will get this fix in the update that goes out at the end of this week so it won't be a long wait.

Once we got VST3 fixed, there will be no need to use VST2 anymore :)

Sonar X3 activated by default the VST3 migration options....perhaps would be interesting to advice that vst3 waves plugs are not working at the moment

If someone opens a project in X3 and saves it...they will loose all the waves plugin settings from their project...

For example, just insert a C1 as vst3 on track 1, then instert another C1 as vst2 on track 2 and you will see a blank GUI or weird things when moving settings on the vst2 plugin.

Can you reproduce it? It seems it gets messed up when you have both vst2 and vst3 versions of the same plugin in the same project.

Hi Daniel,

That is a known limitation of the Waves plugins. You cannot mix and match Waves VST2 and VST3 plugins in the same project.
That is one reason why we default to hiding VST2 plugins when the VST3 version is available.
If you need more Waves specific details about that issue you may get more info from Waves. This is what they told us however.

One thing Waves users will need to be careful of is having projects with both VST2's and VST3s in the same project. This is not supported by Waves and is a common issue with other DAWs that support both VST2 and VST3. The common symptom of the both being in a project at the same time is that some Waves GUIs will not display properly. This is why we default X3 to replace VST2's with a compatible VST3. If you are seeing graphical glitches with Waves plug-ins in a project it's possible that there are both VST2's and VST3's in the same project. Due to the automatic replace, it can be easy to not realize that they have been upgraded. A quick way to check if a plug-in is VST2 or VST3 is to look if the new "Host Bypass" button is available. Selecting the VST drop down on the plug-in window and clicking "Plug-in Properties" displays the VST plug-in scan location. If this say it's scanned from Program Files\Common Files\VST3 than it is a VST3 version.

You shouldn't need to do this. The GUI problems were fixed in the latest release from Waves so make sure you are running the latest versions. We have been running Waves for months (both VST2 and VST3 versions) with no graphical issues. You might need to talk to waves support to resolve it if you have a different problem.

The lost parameter issue is indeed our bug and it will be fixed ASAP.

Ok, after doing more tests I found that to work with waves as vst 2, I must uncheck the option "replace vst2 plugins whrn opening projects" (on the VST 3 migration options).

Then the GUI is working perfectly in vst 2

Also, "vengeance VPS multiband sidechain VST3" plug in, resets to default settings after saving and reopening the Project!

I dont have more vs3 plugins, its posible that all vst3 plugins reset their settings after saving...

Do waves 64bit work as vst2 without graphics problems in sonar X3 64??

If someone could try it would be nice to know it, sometimes they open good but as soon you start moving settings the graphics starts doing weird things.

Hi Noel,

With the vst 2 waves , I was working with Sonar X3 64bit with Waves 64bit, and got all the GUI problem. I didnt install X3 32 bit so I dont know if it happens on 32bit too.

Sometimes the GUI opens fine, but once you start moving faders from the plug in.. it starts doing weird things on the faders etc.

Same here. I just realized it. I also had two chrashes when inserting Waves plugs into the FX bin. (i'll stay away from waves for know...)
Other than that, no issues. Only positve surprises with X3 so far.
BTW, the VST3 folder doesn't show in the browser but the plugins are available right-clicking the in the FX bin.

I'm not seeing any issues with Waves VST2 plugins so you will need to be more specific and log an issue.
Which version of waves, X64 or X86 etc. I loaded C4 and saved and loaded a project and the parameters and UI were fine.
