What do you have plugged into the MIDI ports on your US-122?

If you don't have a synthesizer, keyboard, or tone generator hooked to the MIDI port, then that's why nothing is happening.

MIDI is only information like "Play this note, then play this note". You then have to send that series of instructions to something that makes sound. This can be some MIDI device, or it can be a hardware or software synth provided by your soundcard, or it can be a softsynth.

It sounds like you don't have any MIDI instruments, and it also sounds like your soundcard has no synthesizer. So, if you want to play the first tutuorial, you need to insert a softsynth like the Edirol VSC. Go to Insert->DXi Synth and insert the Edirol. When the dialog box comes up, make sure you have "First Audio Output" selected in the "Create Tracks" section. You'll see HS insert the Edirol VSC, create a new Audio track, and hook its input to the Edirol VSC.

Now set the output of all your MIDI tracks to the Edirol VSC and try playing the project.

The tutorial on softsynths may help. I believe it was Number 9...

I am just trying to play the built-in sample files. Here is the way I have it set up: Under Options-MIDI Devices-I have the US-122 Midi Port for both Inputs and Outputs. Under Options-Audio- I have the US-122 Out as the Playback Wave Device and US-122 A:B as the Record Wave Device. I am baffled. I can use the US-122 to play all other sounds, including the Media Player, built-in sounds, etc. but no sound from Cakewalk.

Are you trying to play Audio or MIDI tracks? If Audio, make sure you selected the Tascam 122 as the output. If MIDI, you need to use a softsynth or MIDI device. Take the tutorial on using softsynths.

I recently purchased a Tascam US-122. I have Cakewalk Home Studio 2002. When I open a file in Home Studio, I can not hear any sound coming from my Roland DM-20 studio monitors. I have them hooked up to the Line Out jacks at the rear of the US-122. I can hear everything else from my monitors in other programs, including CD, built-in sounds, etc. Can anyone help me figure out why I can not hear anything in Home Studio?
