Ok...I'm confused what everybody means by "audio cables" - are these the same cables I'd connect from the Motif to an amp?

If so, I'm not sure where I would put them - there's one spot in the Audiophile for this size of cable and my computer speakers are plugged in right now?

Also - I STILL can't hear ANY sound in Sonar - the input echno is on, I"m in ASIO mode, other programs play sounds...is there something control panel related I need to fix?

Connect audio cables from Motif to audio phile. then, connect midi cables as phrauge said, but only if u want to use sonar or Project5 to seq. Motif.

connect monitors or headfones to the audiophile so that eveything u hear comes from the audiophile. if ur desktop speakers are enough, then connect them to the audio phile.

Turn Local switch Off in motif and turn input echo on in Sonar.

A program called "RT Player Express" that came bundled w/ the Audiophile gave me the "You need an ASIO driver" message - but the program is flawed according to M-Audio's message boards, most people get that message. I am gonig to disable my default soundcard and only allow the Audiophile to operate to see what that does...

Right now the only speakers I have are connected to my PC, should I hook up headphones or something to the Audiophile - would this allow me to hear what is playing in Sonar and Project 5???

What's telling you you need ASIO drivers?

If you have another soundcard on your system and you switch to ASIO drivers, you may need to disable it. ASIO tends to be problematic with multiple soundcards. Note that your Audiophile counts as a soundcard. You switch to ASIO mode in Options->Audio->Advanced.

Do you have any speakers hooked up to the output of your Audiophile?

Also - this is probably my biggest issue right now

I can't hear ANYTHING in Sonar 4. Nothing. I tried opening up the tutorial files and everything acts as though its playing but it will not play. So I am guessing its not an issue with connections, its something involving my computer's settings? I really want to get this going and I need help! Thanks again...

OK this has been pretty helpful thus far...

I am getting error messages that I need an ASIO driver...where can I download this? Also - I have a HP pavilion 774y computer, it is a little more than 2 years old and I havent bought a sound card for it...do I need to invest in a sound card or is my M-Audio Audiophile Interface going to be enough?

Only if you want to play or record MIDI data from your Motif. (a very good thing) If you do, then you'll need two MIDI cables. One that goes from the MIDI Out of your sound card to the MIDI In of your Motif. And one that goes from your Motif's MIDI Out to your sound cards MIDI In. HTH.

You need regular audio cables, from the audio out of Motif to the audio in of the M-Audio.

Could you elaborate? I don't have midi cables going from Motif to the M-Audio interface, is that what you are talking about? Or do I have to do something with my computer's soundcard??

I suspect you'll also want a full MIDI interface, so you can send MIDI in both directions between the computer and your keyboard.

Hi I need some serious help setting up some equipment, I am very, very lost.

I have a Yamaha Motif 6, an M Audio Firewire Audiophile Interface, Project 5, Sonar 4 Producers Edition. The cables I have to work with are ONE) an M Audio cable with a USB thing on one end and a Midi out on the other end, TWO) a keyboard to amp chord, THREE) two firewire cables (big to big and big to small) that came w/ the interface. I just installed the drivers for the Interface and that seemed to be sucessful. My PC reconizes the new hardware fine.

However, before and after this installation I haven't been able to hear any sound from Sonar 4, like even playing a demo file won't work. I CAN hear audio in Project 5 and when I connect my USB midi cable from computer to keyboard, the connection is fine - however, I'm not able to utilize the keyboard's sounds, I'm restricted to the sounds P5 has to offer.

My goal is to obviously somehow get my keyboard's sounds to play through P5 or Sonar 4 so I can record the sweet sounds of the Motif...but right now I'm really lost. Could somebody guide me through working with an interface (what gets plugged into where) and how to be able to hear a MIDI keybaord's sounds in a program? WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?!?!? I am so confused.
