I am alway amazed at the amount of folks that want to work in MP3, which is a great "condensed" format, but no where near the quality of wave file. Of course whe the medium you find is already MP3 then you have no recourse, so by all means, but as greg said it will still be treated as wave file int e project, and will export as wave file.

A great way to get the best results, is to always work in wave format, then when you have finished the project, and have burned to CD, then use MP3 to upload to the net for others to have access to.

One note to remember is that once MP3 then it can be made a wave file again but will not regain the loss of fidelity during compression, in other words the MP3 saved as wave will still sound like an MP3

You said "I have an MP3 on 1 track." Regardless of the format of the input device, won't it always be recorded as audio (except MIDI, of course)? Greg

Not that I can think of. Try it tonight and see what happens. If it doesn't work, tell us why. Someone will figure it out, and it'll help if you can tell us exactly what your doing and what the program is saying.

Absolutely, or you can convert straight to MP3: File>Export Audio>MP3

2. Go to FILE-->EXPORT AUDIO
3. In the pop-up box, there is a drop down box for the file type - select MP3.
4. Name the file.
5. Hit EXPORT button.

When you check, in the box where it says wave, there is a setting for exporting to MP3, also. Select that instead of wave. If you can't convert to MP3, convert to wave and then get some software that will convert the wave to mp3. Hotfiles.com has a bunch of free ones.

.cwp files are cakewalk specific files that tell music creator where to look for everything in your project. .cwp files can't be played on MP3 players, CD players, etc. It sounds like you are saving your work as a .cwp file, which is fine, but you have to mix down to a wave or mp3 file by exporting the information in the .cwp file.

Yes, correct. In the range of options, there is a button near the middle that says "File Type" (or something like that) and it's default is "Wave." Do you see that?

Hi, I just imported audio to get both the mp3 and the sound effect.

I don't know what format the sound effect is in, possibly wav.

The MP3 is the digital audio. How did you get the MP3 into CW - FILE-->IMPORT AUDIO? What is the sound effect and where did you get it from - that may be MIDI, which you will have to convert to audio before exporting.

I have an mp3 on one track and at the end on a seperate track I have the sound effect (which I assume is the digital audio).

When I clicked saved as it saved as a .cwp then when i go to export it the program won't allow me to change it to mp3. Basically I just want to make it so I can burn it to CD or play it on my comp etc.

I'm assuming that all you have is movie samples in cakewalk. So, what you need to do is this:

Ta daaa!

MIDI and audio data are two different beasts. Audio data is recorded sound - stuff you can hear. MIDI data is a bunch of 1's and 0's that tell your sound card (or any other MIDI device) what sound to make. You need to convert MIDI to audio before you can export it to MP3 or any other audio type file. If you have MIDI in you project, let us know and we'll tell you how to convert it to audio.

Hi,

I'm a complete newcomer to all this. I have zero knowledge so please bare with me!

I've chopped up the songs I want to chop up and can save the file as .cwp but how do I make that mp3 or indeed anything playable?

When I try to save it as midi (I think) it says it contains digital audio (I have samples from movies in my file, does this make a difference?) and won't let me save as anything other than .cwp

Help, where am i going wrong?
