(philipc68)

Thanks, I think you answered my real question - it's not possible to send midi to Rebirth fron P5. That was not apparent from Nick's post, but it seems that it is possible to send midi via a loopback device.

Cheers
Philip
RE: Send MIDI to Rebirth? (SuperGreenX)

I think Nick's answer was the correct one. Rebirth uses ReWire 1.0 which doesn't support midi data transfers, just audio syncing and transfer. Rebirth does support midi in, just not through rewire, hence Nick's midi out and midi yoke workaround.

RE: Send MIDI to Rebirth? (philipc68)

bump

anyone have an idea if it's possible to send midi notes from P5 into the Rebirth TB303/808/909 instruments using Rewire?

Philip
RE: Send MIDI to Rebirth? (philipc68)

Hi Nick,

sorry, evidently I wasn't clear. I was able to load ReBirth in P5 as a Rewire instrument with no problem. However, I couldn't work out how to get MIDI from P5 into Rebirth. For example:
I have a track with Rebirth rewired into it, and paste a midi clip into it. Playing the clip doesn't make any sound, so I'm trying to work out what I'm doing wrong.

On the other hand, if I load a song inside Rebirth and hit the play button in P5, yep, it works, so something is ok. I just can't get how to send midi from P5 to Rebirth.

Cheers
Philip
RE: Send MIDI to Rebirth? (Nick Haddad [Cakewalk])

philip,

Rebirth is so light weight that using it as a rewire client doesn't tax your CPU at all. If you really wanted to send midi from P5 to ReBirth without ReWire, you could always use the combination of the MidiOut DXi and MidiYoke. Check out the P5 Wiki topic on arpeggiator signal routing for a tutorial. Just follow steps 1 through 4 and do the following for step 5:

5) Open Rebirth and set the midi input port to the same Midi Yoke port that you specified in step 4.

But as I said before, this is overkill and will introduce more midi latency than just running ReBirth as a ReWire client.

BTW, rebirth is awesome, you have to give hats off to Propellerheads for making such a nice package available for free.

Send MIDI to Rebirth?
