(xylyx)

I didn't think it would auto-convert them, to be honest...what about if you drag the clip into the track first and then into the GM? Whenever I have dragged a non-acid clip into the GM it has stayed as a non-acid clip, although I haven't imported anything really long in...or double-click the clip in the GM and when the sample appears in the bottom view, turn the groove clipping off (you can also right click on a clip in the GM and set it to play only once).

Don't know if any of the above will work...just throwing out ideas <img src="http://forum.cakewalk.com/upfiles/smiley/s1.gif" alt="" data-smiley="" />

RE: Loooong samples..how to deal with em? (Heckxx)

that does work. i however, have had problems with importing wav samples directly into P5 (due to my computer latency and stuff)

however, in this instance, P5 tells me "You have just created a Groove Clip that is several minutes long. Importing Groove Clips that are very long consumes extra system memory and will degrade system performance. Consider converting the Groove clip back to a regular audio clip once you have finalized the project tempo". This is when i take my .wav file from the library and drag it into a groove matrix spot

I dont need my samples to match any sort of tempo..why is it converting my wave files into Groove Clips in the first place? Any way i can have audio clips, not groove clips, into the GM?
RE: Loooong samples..how to deal with em? (xylyx)

I just tried doing this by dropping a long pad sample wave straight into a groove matrix cell and then changed the trigger setting to 'change immediately'...clicked the cell to start playback and then clicked again to stop it, which it did straight away...

RE: Loooong samples..how to deal with em? (Heckxx)

the "trigger fraction" doesnt help fix my problem...see, what i end up doing is creating a pattern with one very long note (like, 70 bars long maybe). And the "trigger fraction" only prevents new notes from playing...so when i attempt to stop the pattern from playing, it still continues to play notes that have already been played, i.e. my 70-bar note.

As of right now, im using dimension in a crude fasion, and i have to midi up the "stop" button on P5, which i do not like at all. i would rather have direct stop/go control on the sample. any other suggestions?

..is there a phrase sampler synth out there?

RE: Loooong samples..how to deal with em? (xylyx)

There is a global GM setting at the bottom of the GM where you can set the trigger 'fraction' for clips...I think it is set to 1 bar by default, but if you change it to the smallest setting available (128th? Not in front of my music system at the moment, so I can't check it out), then it should see the clip stop almost immediately when you use the pattern off trigger...

That's if I understood what you wanted to do correctly...

RE: Loooong samples..how to deal with em? (lawapa)

You could cut the tune down in shorter segments and use cyclone to sequence that. A susatin pedal could be used to stop the sequence? But you would not stop it using cyclone you'd have to midi up the Sonar/ P5 stop button.

Loooong samples..how to deal with em? (Heckxx)

For my band, i trigger (using the groove matrix) long samples of sounds, which the band plays along to. Sometimes, we get off of the sample, and i am forced to turn the sample off. However, i have not found a good way of implementing the sample where i can readily turn it on and off with simple footswitch midi signals

...right now i use dimension to load the samples, but since the actual pattern in the groove matrix is just one looong note, i have problems stopping it when i need to. Plus, i feel awkward using dimension for these kindof samples, since im treating it as a full fledged instrument in a sense

Ideally i'd use cyclone, but it cant handle the length of some of my samples (which can get as long as entire songs, 5 or so minutes long). So anyways, anyone have any suggestions? anything i wasnt clear on? heh
