Hi Ognis, With a 5100+ Message count I would have assumed you would have been around this forum long enough to have realised from all the Realtek, SoundMax etc users that you really need better than a 50c onboard Audio Chip? Spend a $100 bucks and get something that's at least semi professional.

Sorry for all the loopy hacks for this, but MS created all this confusion by releasing this information late to hardware vendors and not providing enough documentation. Don't bother talking to HP about WaveRT - they will be clueless about this stuff :-)

In MS's defense, they included that capability after receiving input from high-end audio manufacturers that event/notification capability was essential to low-latency functionality. Of course, the design review was pretty late in the development cycle, so there's still crow to eat in Redmond, no doubt. Still and all, they could have just shipped as it was, leaving high-end providers out in the cold. But they did listen and accommodate customer's needs, albeit at the expense of some short term chaos in the market place.

n-track studio
multitrackstudio

and it's work well.

can't work well.

Why don't you delete this method ? others host like n-track studio and multitrackstudio work well without this feature.

I can't get Multistudio, N-Track or Sonar to work with Echo or Reaktek WaveRT Drivers.

Should I just try and reinstall ? I tried deleting the aud.ini file, but that still wouldn't bring up the profiler.

No, I didn't run the profiler, I didn't even notice at first to be honest. However, it seems that now I cannot get the profiler to come up at all. If I try to click it from within Sonar, it will freeze everything forcing me to restart the machine. If I try to change driver to force the profiler at start up, and it will give the normal pop up "must preform a series of tests....", but, the profiler never shows, it goes straight into Sonar.

That doesnt sound right. Have you reprofiled the hardware? With WaveRT it will go all the way down to 1 ms.

It's only 1/10th of a second, but still horrible for a minimum latency setting...

Thanks, yes, I have MMCSS enabled. But, I just noticed, that the lowest I can set latency is 92.9 ms. That's nearly a full second, that can't be right ? I started with an audio file, single file cracked, and played slugish. When I tried Dimension, the latency was so bad I couldn't really play anything, yet I noticed that the sound was even worse than with audio. But, 92.9 ms latency can't be right, or can it ? Something must of went wrong ?

Excellent, so is recording and playback working for you now under WaveRT? I half expected that you wouldn't get any input devices after you switched to HDAudio.sys. Thats what happened on the HP box that I tested with and I had to get a special registry update from MS to fix the BIOS.

I see your edit now - what latency are you running with? I was able to push it to around 3-4 ms without clicks. Make sure you have MMCSS on.

Noel, I think I did what you were saying to do. In Sonar, and everything else, I see this now;

but, now, I don't even get sound from my NI stuff, or Sonar. I do still get windows sounds from videos, and songs (mp3's etc). Did I do something wrong ?

I have found that the free utility driver ASIO4ALL works very well with my laptop's built-in soundcard (which is a Realtek). Computer Music magazine said recently that this driver works under Vista as well.

I'm sure no one would recommend a Realtek for any kind of serious recording work, but ASIO4ALL doesn't really care which soundcard you're using--if you can't find Vista drivers, give it a try.

I don't have a link to ASIO4ALL handy, but if you type that into a Google search window, you should find it pretty quick.

Hello Noel. Many, many thanks for you help, however, that didn't work.

Afer uninstall of the driver the hardware was auto detected almost instantly. So, the only other thing I could think to do was the add hardware wizard, after uninstall, but before restart. I tried this, and used the "Have Disk" option to choose the inf folderr that contained the HDAudio.sys file. About 7 seconds after that, I got the blue screen crash. It restarted, and crased again on its own. I had to go into safe made to fix everything. Here is a copy of the simple error report.

Hi Ognis,

Yes, for what its worth this is normal :-)
Here is a long winded explanation of what is going on. Realtek hardware is WaveRT compliant and they have a WaveRT driver. However the driver that Realtek shipped with Windows Vista does not currently support what is called "Event/Notification mode". Why you may ask - because this mode was developed by Microsoft late last year in the Vista cycle after OEM vendors already had their basic WaveRT drivers. "Event/Notification mode" is the only communication mode that SONAR supports and its the only relevent mode for low latency pro audio applications to support WaveRT.

There is an interim solution however until Realtek writes a notify mode WaveRT capable driver. You can use the built in Microsoft HDAudio.sys class driver. I have tested this driver with the RealTek chipset and it works properly. To use this driver you must first uninstall the realtek driver and then when you get the new hardware prompt navigate to the folder in Windows that contains the .inf files. It should find the Microsoft HD Audio device as a default driver there. Use that driver.
Once the MS driver is installed you should get working WaveRT output in SONAR.
Another thing you might need to do (I had to do this on the system I tested with). The BIOS was incorrectly reporting some info to the Microsoft driver and I got no inputs reported. If you have this problem the solution is to get a BIOS update from HP (which they probably don't have haha<g>) or get what is called a "pin config" registry patch. If and only if you still have a problem after installing the HDAudio.sys driver, contact me and I'll try and obtain a config for you from Microsoft. I will need the exact model number of your computer for that.

Just talked to HP Total Care, they said that if I uninstall the driver the computer will have no sound at all.

Hello Bob, thank you for the reply. However, I have tried to match sample rates between the card and Sonar to no avil. It hasn't worked regardless the sample rate. Even 16/44 both in Sonar and in my driver settings isn't working.

It's not that we don't support the driver. It's saying the driver does not support the current sample rate. You'll get the same thing on XP for example if you set your default sample rate to 192K and try to use a low end card.

Uninstall them, reboot. Vista will install the 'good' driver when the system restarts.

no, roll back drivers is greyed out.

Add/remove programs and see if you can remove the realtek drivers. If no option go to the device manager and uninstall driver. Try and reinstall the driver that shipped with Vista (which is actually newer than the realtek downloaded one which you used).

Once you are back to this driver (allegedly) it should work.

Is this device also the default Windows playback device? If so, try deselecting them in Control Panel (or whatever the Vista equivalent is). Just a thought.

Im not sure if you can roll back the Realtek drivers ( I dont have vista installed at the moment-- note that its not by choice) but to use them with Vista I have read that you need to use the waveRT drivers that shipped with Vista itself, rather than the Realtek drivers , which gives you this error message.

Thanks, I did make sure I had nothing at all that I could see runni9ng in the BG. Sonar was the only thing open. I also checked sample rates. They did match in Sonar, and on RealTek. But,

I'm guessing, but Realtek is usually on-board stuff and might not be able to handle high sample rates and bit depths.

Maybe this will suprise you as much as it did me,

Now, if I could just figure out why Sonar can't use it, when all my NI stuff I've installed plays fine in stand alone ?
