sample of a song i've been working on...

*Warning*
This is a metal song. I know a lot of people here aren't into that...

Just a quick sample. It's missing some vital pieces, but I've been working on it for a while and I'm anxious to share.
As always, feel free to share your opinion!

No need to ever apologize for your genre, TMO. You'll find that most folks around here are musically omnivorous. And anyway, most technical aspects of music production are common across all genres.

Metal's not my thing, but mostly because I feel it's overly derivative. Metal fans are very specific about what a song's got to have in it, and if you deviate too far from the formula they'll reject you for not being pure.

That said, your tune's got potential - my advice to you is to remember that it's your song and that there are no frickin' rules. If you want to throw in a banjo, do it.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Very promising. I wish you could somehow put a bass instrument of some sort into the track to further improve your sound. The playing was very good and if I am not mistaken a bit Metallica style.

Sonar X1 Studio, Duo-capture and Steinberg's UR22 mk2 interfaces, super fast (read snail like) dual core computers, Arturia the Player 25 and Goldstar midi keyboards, Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 phone

bass and vocals will be added. The bass is going to really stand out in the intro.
...and yes, you're correct in the Metallica influence. I've always been really into old school metal (Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Pantera, etc.)

Man I can imagine all sorts of sick melodic leads that could implemented on the rhythm track. Nice let us know when you drop the bass in.

Now all you need to do is keep working it till you get it done.  Sounds great! Don't forget there are people you can collaborate with here in the forums if you want an instrument you can't play or vocals if you don't sing

I'm having to kind of force myself to keep at it. There was a period (shortly after getting sonar) where I was pretty much doing nothing but making music for that channel. After a few months, I kinda got burned out. The positive side of that, though, is that I'm taking my time more with this one. I have a habit of getting excited about parts that turn out to not work so well. Taking a longer time with the writing allows me to realize when something doesn't sound too good.
