samples are really quiet

Dudes:

I have a sampled drum kit functioning correctly in Sonar via VSampler but the volume is really low. They sound fine when VSampler's keys are clicked but not in Sonar.

I've bumped the volume everywhere and maxed the Velocity but the samples are still barely audible.

Anyone?

    how are you triggering the samples? via notes in staff view? Have you tried right clicking the notes and check their velocity?

    Yes, via notes in the staff and yes I bumped the velocity to 127 and the volume is still really poor. I don't understand why they sound ok when the sampler keys are clicked but not in Sonar. Even +6 db from the sampler's volume doesn't make much difference.

    When notes in the staff are clicked they're fine but not in Play mode.

    They're just a bunch of .wavs. I created the kit in VSampler using Import / Import Wizard and specifying the folder which contained the wavs and the starting key I wanted to assign the first one to.

    Then I transposed my source MIDI data to match the elements I wanted to play (it's quicker than making a map) - everything works except I get really poor volume in Play mode. Clicking either the keys in VSampler or the staff notes is fine.
