What specifically do you mean by scratch disk?

well, like when I record I usually like to use a seperate HDD to record with so I dont get audio drop outs. When I use sonar on the HDD that is running sonar i get drops like crazy. I havent used sonar in a while i been using pro tools. But I wanna come back to sonar, I like it better.... I hope that helps...any suggestions?

If you go into preferences, there's a page for File > Audio data. You can set that to globally store audio data wherever you like. An even better option is to tick the "Use per-project audio folders" box on that page. Then your audio will be wherever you create your projects, and organised into the project's folder.

Your audio tracks will stream from whatever drive you have them on. What you are asking sounds like it pertains to some direct disk set-up from last century. Set your default project directory in Global/Folders to the drive and path you want to store your audio or setup per-project audio folders when you initiate a project.

Oh, I see. Thanks John! So its just where the audio file is stored. I understand now, thanks. A lot of editing programs use scratch disks, like photoshop and premier pro and final cut pro and pro tools and reaper, and many others. So its not something from last century, lol.....its just worded different in X1. Well, thanks Jon and John (no pun intended). Problem solved! *************************************************************************

It is usually a slightly different concept, though it's not a term with an absolutely consistent meaning. In Premier, your video files aren't usually "imported" in the way audio is into a Sonar project. Usually, you're referencing the original files wherever they were, and the Scratch Disk is just a temporary storage area, a sort of notebook for the program to use, which Premier will use and clean out pretty much automatically as it needs to. An audio folder in Sonar is more like a reel of tape with your project actually permanently stored there. Nothing goes away unless you explicitly delete it.

"A lot of editing programs use scratch disks, like photoshop and premier pro and final cut pro and pro tools and reaper, and many others. " A scratch disk... as implemented by Photoshop or Premiere is an application specific use of hard disk space as "virtual memory". This is meant to augment the RAM. The scratch disks you can choose (or choose not to use) with Photoshop and Premiere function as dedicated page files for just those applications... and the contents are ephemeral. The idea is basically the same as the basis for Windows Virtual Memory Manager... but it is "insulated" from Windows other activities. With Cakewalk, and audio folder is just a regular old folder... and Cakewalk's "scratch disk" is the pagefile.sys which is essentially Windows Virtual Memory. best regards, mike

Yea, Mike, about the pics. Maybe you should retitle it "Who's gonna make the bigger splash?"
https://soundcloud.com/a-pleasure-dome http://www.bnoir-film.com/ there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
