seeking female vocalist for collabs

Looking for a female vocalist, pref in the mid to hi alto range (no opera screamers please!) who would be willing to record some parts of my songs that were written for female lead and/or harmonies/chorus. Check out my samples on soundclick (see songs forum) for sampling of my styles and pm me if any interest? Many parts are very small and easily done and I'd be glad to work with you. thanks! ~ John

    John,

You might want to try posting over at TAXI in the forums there... they have a collab forum.... no need to be a TAXI member, the forums are free to sign up and join the conversations.
There are also some songwriter forums and singer forums that I have been a limited part of where singers and writers connect. Just google it and you will find any number of such sites.

I have worked with some local folks, found in church, and local performers in this area. The ones I have worked with across the internet were OK but it is really hard to work closely with them to tell them specific things which are easy to stop and correct on site, but it's a real imposition to do across the wires.  Phrasing, pronunciation, tone, and more.... sometimes they just need to be in the studio with you so you can get the vocal performance you want and correct the bad stuff right away.

I found this out by working with a singer in another state.... the result was OK.... but suffice it to say, that song is not found on my website. In another case, a local girl in my daughters school and a good friend to her turned out to be an amazing singer for a 16yr old.... she sings on Give me a chance and Come & Go on my site. I was able to stop her and give her the notes and phrasing I wanted to get the vocal take right.

I'm always looking for singers to work on stuff.... the big problem is in finding the ones who have a passion for it like I do for the music. Many will say they'd love to do it but then pinning them down to get in the studio and record the song..... well that's a whole other story..... and I hear the excuse that they haven't had time to listen to the song yet, after having had it for 2 months.  Huh? really? and they claim to be a singer?  Give them more time is useless because they normally say they can't do it after stringing the project along for 3 months....... finding equally dedicated folks is the hard part. I got lucky finding the girl that sang on those 2 songs for me. She's in her last year of school so she won't be available for very long.

But don't let that stop you..... they are out there ... you just gotta find them. I'm trying to get up with a singer who is active in the local music scene to see if she might be interested in recording...and also a guy from a church I was attending a few months back..... I just gotta write something new.

    Good luck to you.

I bought a soft synth, Vocaloid Miriam for the same reason.
It works, but takes a little work to get it sounding like a human would.

    Look At Me
is a quick song I wrote to try her out.

"Seeking hot-looking, single, female vocalist who's around 30 and financially independent.  Must be willing to be seen with an unemployed, overweight male who's pushing 50 and about to be sleeping in a deluxe '92 Toyota Camry.  Auditions happening soon."

hahahahaha hey Craig let me know if you get any takers on that, will ya? Maybe I haven't been specific enough to attract the right female vocalists! hahahah Herb, thanks for the points, many of which I've also found out via trial and error. Local means around here in my area have not been successful, but I have had such good experiences off and on with long distance collabs that I'm not counting that out. Like you pointed out, so many say they want to work but drag you out for 3+ months without anything accomplished. I've got so many songs on the shelf collecting dust, that I've written with female lead or even female chorus harmonies as BGV, that it seems I'll never get that stuff done. Greg, never heard of Vocaloid Miriam, but I'll give a listen to the sample you did - doubt I'll go that route but technically it's interesting. Meanwhile I'm just plodding along working around those tunes that I can't finish up. Thanks, all! ~ John

Greg.... that sounded fairly decent.... the EQ seemed to be off a bit like she was singing in a box or something but EQ is fixable.

I have heard this before and there are examples of "her" singing solo....  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jVBJ5bajNo

just enough artifacts to let you know something else is going on there... kinda like autotune. But... give this technology a few more years with some bright software engineers and singers will be a thing of the past.... maybe.
