selecting tracks to export

i want to confess that i feel very stupid for asking this question, but i actually don't know the answer.  (yes, every time i post is because i don't know the answer, but then the questions are technical and i never studied anything technical so i don't feel i have to know the answers.  this i should know but i don't.)

i finally have the keyboard and the voice tracks recorded.  i want to export both tracks as a riff wav file.  when i select Export> Audio the software tells me that i have not selected anything to export.  what do i have to do for the program to know that i've selected the tracks to export?  this has happened before and what i've done is to keep clicking on Audio until the program responds, but i have 14 songs to go and im not doing that way this time.

Well, you will probably see a few methods mentioned. Each will have its merits.
    here's how I do it:
First, make sure all of your audio track outputs point to the master bus.
It's generally good practice to build your project this way.
Then, when you export, just select Master Bus as the source.
This way, you don't have to worry about selecting the proper tracks.
Make sure to set your Bit Depth to 16, and Sample Rate to 44,100. This will give you a standard wav file that can be burned to CD, or converted to MP3

click on the track number in the track view... the track number will have a highlighted green box around it when it is selected.

hold  the control key down and select the other tracks.....or double click on any track number and ALL tracks will be selected.....

NOW: file>export>audio.......choose you destination and name the file   and in the PRESET drop down box choose WHAT YOU HEAR

All the other things are selected by default... so hit EXPORT and it will send the wave to the location you selected.

After you've selected the tracks by Ctrl-clicking, scroll through the project to ensure that you don't have any isolated clips that didn't get selected. Sometimes that happens to me and I get a song with a missing vocal part or solo.
If your song is made up of many different clips, make sure that all of them are selected.

    dear RobertB:

when you get a chance please explain what is a bus in MC parlance.  you know that i believe that a bus is a vehicle that takes you somewhere.  i have assumed that the terminology comes from the console days as it is in the console view of MC, but not having handled a console back in the days when i could have handled a console, i have no clue what a bus is in console speak.  ( I generally work on the track view, but it would be good to learn more about the console view.)

    Thanks,

think of a buss as another track that has several tracks going in to it.

I like to compare it to a pyramid.  The audio tracks are at the bottom or base.... some tracks go into the next level, which is the buss, and then the master buss is on the top....

I use busses for placing ALL my guitars or ALL my vocals into one buss (track) where I apply the FX to them all instead of having FX in all teh tracks, I jusy place it one time in the buss and it does them all at once.

Using a buss also allows you to easily raise, lower, or mute all the tracks in it.

Busses are quite handy and have more uses than those listed above.
