    My preferred method:

    - Start the transport with no playback metronome or count-in.
    - Count beats in your head at the tempo you want for a few measures, and stop the transport on a downbeat.
    - Hit Shift-M (Set Measure/Beat At Now), and enter the measure you counted to in your head.

SONAR will set the tempo according to what you say that measure should be.

I find this to be much more accurate than tapping tempo with a mouse.

If you're trying to change the initial tempo for the whole project...

    1. Position the Now Time at the beginning of the project... press Ctrl+Home.
    2. Choose Project > Insert Tempo Change from SONAR's main menu.
    3. Click the Click Here To Tap Tempo button. You can do this with the mouse for the whole tempo, or you can just click it once to give the button focus and then use the Spacebar on your PC keyboard to tap in the desired tempo.
    4. Click OK once you have the correct tempo.

Thanks, it's Shift-N BTW. Also, I am looking for the good old preferences. I want to uncheck "on stop -rewind automatically" or something like that. Still struggling with the switch from 8.5 to X1.

Choose Options > On Stop, Rewind to Now Marker from the Track view menu.

My problem is that I use sonar once in a while. After so many years of using it one way, X1 becomes a very hard switch. I guess I should have your book on my bedside table! Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hi Thierry,

No problem. Glad I could help!

Yes, my SONAR X1 Power! book is still available and it will walk you through all the SONAR X1 features. It's definitely helpful when switching from 8.5 to X1. For more info on the book... http://www.garrigus.com/powerbooks.asp

    Thanks!
