Wow! Where to start? I like the tune. It reminds me of some days gone by in its flavor. Actually, what I hear in all the parts is a good EQ and good playing ability. But I would REALLY like to hear all the parts!- more cleanly and distinctly.
This mix has a ways to go in my opinion... from the mixing point of view. First, the drums are nearly non existant on my system. They are buried. The snare would be a really important component of this tune I would think. The low end sounds good, as does the little bit of kick drum I can detect, but I think it's driving the mix comprssor hard... I hear it pumping in places. The acoustic guitars, which have a GREAT jangly sound by the way, are very loud, and may be what's burying the rest of the mix. They do seem to be panned nicely however.
The vocalist has a very pleasing quality.
So I think I'd start with drums on this one... add the bass...then the guitars, then the vocals... then any other instruments... and work on stereo placement of each element by panning, reverb, delay, or whatever works to make them more distinct. Check that compressor.
Very interesting and pleasant tune with a little attention to those details! Check back, OK? Thanks for posting.
Cheers!
