I think its like legalized gambling. Six of one and a half dozen of the other. The advantages will be offset by further problems. The prison system would get a breather but there would be more of it and this would cause more trickle down problems...so IMO we would still have problems just a different set of them. People that want to do that bad enough do it now,so nothing would change in that regard. If it were legalized the govt. would still be regulating the sale and distribution of the stuff. No way they would allow a free for all.

Yes. Or make drinking illegal. I'd much rather be around somebody stoned than I had a drunk.

spacey Yes. Or make drinking illegal. I'd much rather be around somebody stoned than I had a drunk. Agreed. Yes. I've always said that if pot is illegal then so should alcohol, cigarettes and caffeine. Which by the way are 3 of the hardest drugs to quit. If you're going to draw a line, then make all drugs illegal. Mike

If it were legalized the govt. would still be regulating the sale and distribution of the stuff. True, but instead of the $$ going into the pockets of politicians, it would go into paying off some of our national debt. Sure a few DEA agents might be out of work but so what. That's even more money we don't have to waste. I've read quite a bit about this subject and am a member of NORML. I'm also a recovering addict. It's said that the US spends $5 million+ every year fighting marijuana alone. It's also been proven that if they legalize it, that within 5 years it would generate about $4 billion dollars in tax dollars and revenue. Seems like a no-brainer deal of the week to me. But This is just one man's opinion. Mike

Yeah, there's something about making things legal that sort of takes the thrill and fun out of it for kids. Mike

With the 3 strike law in the US, smoking a joint could be the deciding factor for getting life in prison. Nobody should spend a day in prison for that. If not legalized, it should be decriminalised. Like booze, there could be fines for consumption out of residence and impared driving. IF all drugs of any kind could land you in prison the CH would be a bit dreary.

I don't partake near as much as I used to, but I'd think legalizing and regulating would be a step forward. On a side note, the stuff they grow these days ain't nuthin like it used to be. A buddy of mine offered me some a couple of weeks ago to take home and try. He warned me "Be careful, it's pretty potent". It had been maybe 5 years since I smoked. I got home and the wife was at a meeting, so I scrounged thru a drawer and found an old pipe, loaded up and lit up. Took maybe 4 or 5 hits, and got up to let Elvis out. So I'm sitting on a bench under the pine trees in my backyard, then I'm lying on the bench, then I'm hanging on to the bench like I'm stranded at sea and afraid to fall off a board. Jumpin boseephus! I finally rolled off of the bench and kinda staggered in the house and sat down on the couch, my head kinda lolling around on my neck. WTF? Pulled myself up and wandered into the kitchen and found a half a bag of Oreo's, so I grabbed the half full gallon jug of milk from the fridge and sat down at the table and began to snack in earnest. Dunking Oreos and drinking from the jug like it was my job. That's when the wife walked in. She's got this look on her face like Elvis gets when I whistle at a real high frequency. Head tilted and quizzical. She says "What are you doing?" and I reply with milk dribbling from the side of my mouth, "Wanna get high?". She just shakes her head and says I should go lie down for awhile. "Good idea" I say and as I'm walking out of the room she gently takes the cookies and milk from my hands and I never broke stride on the way to bed. It ain't like it was folks. This new stuff in powerful! Randy

Wow Randy, that must've been the medical type? I watched a documentary on this a few months ago and they actually have "specialists" that grow this for medical purposes with different grades/names etc.... A guy in San Fran. (I think) was trying to legalize/promote it and actually had all his documents ever ready when the Popo/DEA came (on a regular basis) to his place of business.
