should i buy a new computer?

I recently bought a new notebook; it had what i thought was decent speed processor. Well it has a AMD E240 1.5gHz proc running windows 7.. My other notebook which is 5 years old has intel dual core 2 T5550 1.66ghz and 1.67ghz and is noticable faster. I guess i didnt realize that they would put a 1.5ghz proc in a new notebook. you get what you pay for, but still i was really surprised that my old notebook performs better (running vista).. It is actually noticable slower than my old notebook. So.. do you think i should get new computer, and if so, are desktops alot better for sonar or does it make a big difference?  also is the proc speed the MAIN thing i need to be looking at in a notebook, for audio recording?

For most folks yes, processor speed lets you do more plugins and softsynths in Sonar.   Memory too if you use big software syths.

There's nothing odd in the 1,5 Ghz, but AMD240 is a single core CPU. I guess your old Intel dual core is nearly twice as fast.

A single core 1,5 Ghz is hardly enough to run any modern DAW (with VSTs) fluently.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.
