slow marching band

There used to be a group. ..I think called the slow marching band. To my mind they were the best group in the song forums. Can anyone provide me a link of their music. I really want to hear them. There was another guy who could chirp like a robin. Could I also have his link. These are the two best. Until I put up my music :-) shout to cryphonix too.

Thanks

Up your game.

No. Maybe you should ask in the songs forum.

I was one half of 'Slow Marching Band'. It doesn't exist now, and there is no link. If you PM me your address, I'll mail you a CD though.

Glad you liked and remembered the music, but there is no 'best'.

That explains why I couldn't find the page on soundclick the other day then. I knew you guys weren't working together any longer, but didn't realise that you had taken the music down too :(

I agree ( personally speaking only- I feel some compliments can be insulting to others- I mean, I sure don't want to put down others to bring one up) but I remember how cool it was when you two musicians posted a new tune.
Not only very fine music to enjoy but it also inspired me to try and record
listening to that "magic" that is possible.
I've heard that "magic" happen from many here...lot of inspiration to "up ones game"
and The Slow Marching Band delivered.

Thanks Michael, that's very nice to hear. I'm immensely proud of the work SMB did, it's good that people remember it fondly.

If you want any of the music Paul, the same offer applies. I have plenty of copies of the first actual CD we did, and the 2nd planned-but-never-realised CD is all still on my hard-drive. I can burn it or upload the tunes for you, just let me know.

If people feel offended, they shouldn't... infact its good to learn from others and if someone told me to up my game I wouldnt feel sleighted I think I would just look to work harder. Criticism is a medicine best served chilled.

Just as it's recently been mentioned how reading about other folks' favourite music and bands has often had the benefit of expanding one's own musical interests, I've found the same to be true when listening to fellow members' musical offerings over in the Songs forum.

I've taken an interest in, and enjoyed listening to, a number of genres of music I would probably have otherwise never taken an interest in.

James won't mind me saying this, but Slow Marching Band's songs would probably have been exactly the type of music I would never have listened to. But when you know the people who created the music, and are aware also that they used the same or similar software as yourself to record and produce it, you somehow feel more willing to take a listen.

And this is exactly what happened to me with SMB; James and Larrys' beautifully crafted songs opened my ears to a style of music I wouldn't have probably even considered listening to. I regularly listen to their stunning CD, alongside albums from other Songs forum members such as Frank Tanton, and my old pals Bob Oister and Mark Wessels.

Another relevant point I think worth raising is that James was one of the guys who really helped me over in the Guitar Tracks forum with my first fumbling steps into the world of digital recording. And the thing is, to me anyway, that when you listen to the calibre of music and the quality of the production that guys like James consistently deliver, you know their advice can be trusted, and you welcome (and actively seek out) their opinions and help whenever possible. To me, that's worth more than any amount of pretentious bull from guys who simply talk the talk, but haven't got as much as one bar of their own music for others to listen to - step forward Daveny5 & John, to name but two.

...

I keep saying all the time, that time never was when music wasn't. But we tend to only listen to one thing, and do not believe that anyone else can possibly do it, because they don't know what you know.

Trust me, it's frustrating, and reminds me of my friend on the air, one time in Santa Barbara, playing something really good ... and the other DJ interrupted and said ... "it's not rock'n'roll" ... to which my roomie slowed the album to a crawl and stop and said ... "who cares? It's great music!" and then started it up again!  The name of the song? "Are You Receiving Me?" ... from Golden Earrings's Moontan album! The total irony of it all!

The same dj made a comment about Peter Hammill's "Still Life", that it was getting better, but still weird. And the first thought in my mind was ... how "still" his life really was when he can't even hear MUSIC. He has to have the hit or the known beat or singer!

It's the same thing here. I find it rather sad, that one gets a new guitar and he doesn't "expose" himself on it immediately ... and was, instead looking for something else that has already been done. It's ok to learn that, but to repeat it, means you are 2nd best!

And if you're gonna be 2nd best, might as well go down playing your own music, and **** what anyone else says!

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

Music is everywhere. If one can't or doesn't expand their listening enjoyment it's because they're not
listening, for whatever reason(s). I guess if it takes knowing that another person enjoys it...Ok.

I've never tracked it so I have no idea how many different genres/styles of music I'm exposed to everyday...here, there and it's everywhere.

I wouldn't mind giving credit to each place or person that supplies it but I'd rather think recognition starts with one wanting to hear it because it sure isn't hard to find...in a nutshell one doesn't have to search for it or really need another pointing it out. Not in the sense for exposure to genres or styles. Specific recordings is a different story. There is so much that it can be very helpful for many reasons to mention a specific recording but to expose somebody to different styles?...maybe if they've been living on a remote island in space.

One finding enjoyment in different styles I think is acquired through time for many reasons....listening is all it takes and some people...just don't hear even when they are listening and never will. That's life.

Since I evidentally missed out on the original postings, do you have any plans to upload the songs somewhere?  My curiosity has been tweaked.
