slowing it down for practice

I'm working on tracking in a bass line currently (then everything else) 
 
I found a tempo, but then S L O W E D  I T  D O W N  to practice it? 
 
I'm working with my son to have him sing another, I'm going to have him do the keys. I showed him how you can slow it down (same key) and play along with it to learn it? He thinks the tech is pretty cool :-) He'll start tracking the keys tomorrow? Then I'll show him how to edit them. (he's 11) I showed him tonight how Medldyne works, and how you can edit things? and he was blown away by the concept!

Sittin downtown in a railway station one toke over the line.

    slowing things down for practice is probably one of the best things a person can do to get good at music ….
    I spend most of my time doing that as opposed to writing songs …
    I like to dissect and learn from much better players than myself ….it's cool stuff for sure

    I use this a lot for practice also, coupled with a metronome. Those two things alone have accounted for some great (relatively speaking ) advances in my playing.
     
    And yes the fact that we have this technology at our fingertips is really cool.

    Not a tool that I would recommend, use for recording, or even suggest - but here's a capability I saw with Roland's stand-alone version of R-Mix.

    The one cool thing I see in it is that you can identify a part in a fully mixed song, isolate it, and then slow it down in tempo while preserving the pitch.

    The demo of that is about 2 mins into the 4 min pro piece here. Pointing it out because of the general topic in this thread. Again, I have no interest in the tool - but I think that capability is slick.

    Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

    We got the keys down :-) Well I got them down? And then taught the boy... (he's 11) He gobbled it up!! Once I showed him, he was all up in there! I was so proud... He didn't have it "perfect?" But he had it pretty darn good! And he's just learning. I'm trying to teach him "music" and music theory. So this is his first crack at it, he wanted to learn the keys and I encouraged him to do so. Because IMO, the keys are the easiest and best instrument to learn. And that knowledge can be parlayed to other instruments. He played with it slowed down and learned how to do it, but now he can play along with it at normal speed :-) (and so can I :-)
     
    It's Imagine Dragons Demons? We're working on a release... He's going to sing it too? And I'm going to back him up. Look forward to it? It will be "epic..."
