so I go to the local GC...

and look for line mixers. I need to find a small line mixer, just 2 inputs is all I require, to use to mix my 2 keyboards live for the 1 input to the FOH. I was using my mixing amplifer as a monitor and used the mixer on it to perform the mixing function for the 2 keyboards. but we recently obtained Avioms for monitoring and I had to remove my mixing amplifer. so I need a small line mixer in order to continue to use both keyboards.

A 20 something year old GC drone (I am serious about his age!) comes up and asks if I need help.

GC Drone: do you need some help?
Me: yes, I see a lot of analog mixers here, but I don't see any Line Mixers.
GC Drone: Line Mixers?
Me: Yes, I just need a simple line mixer, I dont need more than 2 inputs.
GC Drone: what's a Line Mixer?

you just need one of those cheapie Rolls or ART mixers that are the size of a stompbox for $35.  But I might suggest you get something a tad bigger, like those notebook sized ones....Those little Spirit mixers, etc.  Cause you might need more in the future, ya never know and the extra $20 now will be wisely spent.  Besides, you need to tell the FOH to run you in stereo...at least in the IEM!  That means 4 channels!

How's that for a dude that's 61?    However, give the kid some slack, unless he's a total slacker.  You have to start somewhere and GC is a great place to have people tell you what you need to know!

Those rolls or art stomp box size were exactly what I was looking for. But they didn't have them. Nor did they have the rack mounted line mixers, just the regular analog mixers.

Ha, true he does need to start somewhere! But I did know equipment when. I was his age.

Actually I ended up getting a 6 channel Alto mixer with tape I/O and EQ. It was on sale for $41

You guys. You start with a serious topic - GC SUX! - and then derail it with talk of limes, of all things. As if there wasn't enough inherent humor in the original topic to sustain the thread. And you see what happens: the thread died 3 days ago instead of carrying from its own inertia for weeks.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I would totally buy gear from Einstein. First, because I would be fascinated by the idea that the right sound could rip a hole in the space-time continuum. Second, because math isn't his cup of tea and there's a good chance I could get a crazy deal.

Well, I could get a crazy deal AND rip a hole in the space-time continuum.

I'm going to have to go back to Guitar Center to see if he's working today.

That's Napoleon Einstein, not Al who works at GC.  "Nappy" as he is referred to by his coworkers is very knowledgable about the important things at GC like the disco balls and the scratch turntables.

Oh, right. The Nap Dawg.  I went in for some drum sticks and guitar strings. He didn't know what those were, but he sold me some lights for my shoes that are da bom. They're for shizzle. I still don't know how that makes anything sound better, but he was very convincing.

I don't know. It appears that everything that sparkles, lights up, or blinks in some way is for shizzle. Those things are also, apparently, the only things you need to make monstah tracks. He seemed to feel that shizzle wouldn't mind letting me use them as long as I wore a baseball cap sideways. According to Nap Dawg, that's just the way it works.

The idea of taking one's Granny to Guitar Center to listen to six simultaneous attempts at Enter Sandman in six different keys seems oddly entertaining.
