so did you lose or earn money using sonar X1?

just curious because some reports here losing project due to corrupted files
ended up with client canceling the order and suing them for not keeping the deadline etc etc.
Any success story? has anybody earned million dollars finishing lucrative project on time with X1?

Never been paid a million dollars for anything. But I have been getting paid, as have several others. I'm not really convinced of the premise here, mind you.

Well, for June, July, and August, I am right at $6,000 USD earned from SONAR X1. Not a huge amount, but I have not lost any money to due any bugs from X1.

I am having some serious trouble with a mix right now, but it has nothing to do with X1 problems, just problems from the musical performance, tracking tones, etc...

I'm out $750 (What I paid for the parts to build my DAW). After I installed X1c my DAW has been unusable for recording. Everyone tells me it's a hardware related problem and it was pure coincidence that it showed up immediately after I installed X1c. Maybe so ... fact is ... I'm down to replacing hardware now and it's going to cost me a lot of money that I don't have ... so I don't have a DAW for the foreseeable future.

$2000pm thats good going what type of artist have you had walking through your doors Sylvan.

And what new equipment have you bought?

Well, this summer I recorded for the Power Chord Academy in San Diego and Los Angeles (a rock n roll camp for kids ages 12-18) and Day Jams in San Diego (another rock n roll camp, but a day camp only ages 8-15).

I then signed a recording contract for the band Liquid Blue in Encinitas, CA (San Diego county) to record about 450 songs. They are a cover band that does corporate and private shows all around the world.

But at my own personal studio, I record mostly metal bands. But lately I have had some blues, classic rock, acoustic/sonwriter, and funk clients.

This mix I am having loads of trouble with right now is from a metal band in San Diego called Might and Magic. For the life of me I cannot get the low end right and the mixes are boomy and unclear. It is causing no end of stress for me. I have nailed this many times with many other mixes, why is this one kicking my a$$? Anyway, sorry to rant about that one...ha ha ha.

Ol X1 (all the way from the crappy first iterations to the now pretty wonderful C model) has paid for itself multiple times over here.  Course I use it and 8.5 both to make my living.  That said, until now at least, X1 was never in front of clients...only 8.5 for that.

Well - I did not earn thousands of dollars (or euro's - I live in Europe), but X1 paid itself for more then five times (and far more is to follow for the end of this year), so I did not loose any money. On the contrary - it earned me enough money to upgrade some of my gear and more. Buying X1 was a very good deal for me..;-).

It's paid for itself many times for me doing music for video....and a lot of that was not even really original music... just working off of a sequence already written in Z3ta

I make about $250/Month performing in a virtual world.  It's not a huge sum but it is *my* money and it buys me gear :)

I use Sonar X1 to put backing tracks / Loops together and also use Matrix View for live work.  I had a couple of initial hiccups, but am happy with X1B - lurking a little for X1C.  Personally I like the X1 interfaces for the work I do.  I would like to stretch the control bar over multiple monitors, but not something I pull my hair out over.

    Cheers

Before I used X1 I was never getting paid, those old tired interfaces just meant I couldn't get anything done! I couldn't use the compressor because it didn't look cool enough, I couldn't EQ because the interface was bland and boring...my tracks just didn't inspire me...the staff view actually worked, it was all just a mess. Now with X1 I've been turning out more work than ever! The brand new interface has turned my otherwise bland music into works of art and genius! Since notation doesn't work in X1 I am forced to use loops and audio recordings which has transformed me into a real producer! ProChannel means I can EQ like never before -  I click randomly all over the frequency bands and it sounds awesome no matter what. Wahoo! I'm typing this from a couch made out of hundred dollar bills! Believe it!

(p.s call in the next ten minutes and I'll throw in pop hit maker 3000, just click play and generate your very own I V VI IV progression!)

We make money regardless as this is an in-house facility in a gaming factory.
I would like to thank the folks at Sonar for introducing us to Nuendo though. XI slowed our workflow down to the point where we needed to do something quickly as it looked like the bakers had lost the plot completely.
We still run Sonar 8, have Sonar XI installed and open it when there's time for "wrasslin'" or playing "guess where we hid this function?"... Doesn't seem to crash as much with the new patch and as a long time Cakewalk user I like to keep my eye on it... I've argued the merits of this program against those that would dismiss it as a toy for well over a decade now.
Money? nah, we are doin' just fine... gaming is all about product development and deadlines... the show MUST go on... so we do whatever's necessary to git r' done.... regardless of "experiments" in software design
    :)

I am still a hobbiest but if I were commercial I fully expect I would have made money because I make money on everything I try to make money at. That may soundarrogant but it is ot meant that way. What I mean is this. If I were using X1 to make money I would have replaced whatever needed replacing in order that my system would work... if that meant a new interface and buying  new Studiocat with CUSTOMER SUPPORT and having Jiminstall all my programs and media, that is what I would have done. There is NO WAY, if I were using X1 as a business tool, that I would have allowed problems to continue any time at all... and if one cannot afford the tools needed to do the job then I don't know what to say. I have been a business owner since 1989 and have always used the best tools and materials that mney can buy and I do not advertize, I can barely keep up with the business that comes by referrals... so I know a little about what it takes to run a sucessful business... you have to do whatever it takes to please the customer and to overcome problems... and problems can be overcome. If anyone can run X1 and run it stable everyone can if they are willing to do whatever it takes.

Still, I am a happy hobbiest. However, as I learn more and become fully retired from my business I hope to learn how to break into the local recording business. Frankly I don't know where to start but I am not ready to start either. As I get ready, when I have the time and the confidence, I will find customers.

If you cannot make X1 work and make money for you.. if that is your thing then, IMO, you have not done all you can or borrowed and spent mney to get there if that is what is needed.

I think there was a transition period when pros needed to keep 8.5.3 running while any bugs were worked out and while they learned their way around X1 but other than that... there is no reason for X1 to not be working comercially if you are willing to do whatever you have to do... that is the way business works. You cannot tell a customer that you wil "try"... you have to be able to tell a customer that you "will", and if there is some reason you can't then that is what CS and money is for... it is called investment, you make it, go in the hole, then you come back out because you do whatever is necessary to please the customer.

Now this is just my opinion but it is also my understandingthat there are people making it work and work well, so I see no reason that everyone shoudn't be able to make it work and work well.

Yeah, this is completely subjective but I have always found that where there is a will there is a way.

I was wondering that too. It's a new one on me, I have to say, and I've been hanging around here to an unhealthy degree lately. I'd be surprised if something this dramatic had happened anywhere other than the poster's imagination and I'd missed, though I allow this is possible. Obviously a link to the thread in question will put this one to bed.

just curious because some reports here losing project due to corrupted files
ended up with client canceling the order and suing them for not keeping the deadline etc etc.
Any success story? has anybody earned million dollars finishing lucrative project on time with
    X1?

Well I would wonder why so many inane comments and questions from this user ?.

Is it just trying to make small talk ?,  trolling ? - I just don't get it.
Maybe I'm missing something or having an extended stupid session, but to me I'm seeing inane questions
    one after the other.

Here's the obvious answer to the million dollar question - I doubt anyone made a million finishing a project
in X1 or any other DAW - but you know that so why did you ask ?.

The other part, no problems here with corrupted projects, so no change at all in earnings due to X1 or anything else.

    Anything else ?.

Oh, kc2ine is a troll, for real.

Interesting thread though. His absence, I expect, is down to it panning out exactly oppositely to his expectations.

Yeah, I'm not sure what his angle is. It does seem like he likes to stir things up a bit and feed off of the responses.
