somewhat URGENT technical question
i am doing some beta testing for a bank of sounds for someone who would like me to keep this as anonymous as possible, here's the scenario, I load a preset and fool with it in the editor, I send that pattern to the track and play it in th etrack. it sounds very much as if almost all but very subharmonic frequencies have been filtered. If I stay in editor or track, the sound is fine as soon as I switch play, it gets filtered. AND it turns out that he's assigned CC1 to the filter Does P5 or Sonar send midi messages (like CC1) with a switch from editor to track play??? I will look into this some more, to see if CC1 (filter) setting changes

Well CC1 is the control code for the Mod Wheel...do you have a midi keyboard plugged into your machine? I wonder if you have whether it is causing the (presumably Low Pass) filter cutoff to go to near 0....

could this just be my machine? anyway, on these patches where the filter has been assigned to CC1, the filter definitely snaps down to 0 setting on a switch from play in the editor to track and also any halt in the track following a play i'vd had other sounds set to Mod Wheel and I'v enever seen anything like this

I presume that the synth which these presets are for is not a beta? Why is the preset set up to go to 0 when the Mod Wheel is down? Normal practice for presets as far as I can tell is to set the cutoff to the required level and then use the MW to either add or subtract from that initial level, without it ever going to the extreme that you are noticing...if that were the case here, then CC1 at 0 should have the filter cutoff set to the preset designer's desired cutoff amount, not 0...

that would seem to be the way it should work it initially plays with the filter all the way up as soon as i hit track stop or switch to the editor, it resets also if i move the Mod Wheel, it resets the synth definitely isn't in beta

It's hard to know what else to suggest without knowing which synth it is or being able to try out the preset for myself...from what you are saying, the mod matrix (or whatever the synth uses for mapping) is not setup to make the cutoff go to zero if the MW is at zero...correct?

i don't think it does help i don't see any CC1 'in use' in any automation as X has mentioned this is the Mod Wheel control as well so it can be in use just about anytime the preset sets it somewhere near the to top of the range and twiddling the Mod Wheel or switching editor to track or starting and stopping track causes the setting to null out. apparently some hosts used to do this but 'corrected' this behavior if I draw a Mod Wheel automation at 100% [which would seem to be a sure fire fix]-- i wonder if it still responds to mod wheel twiddles?

don't see any CC1 'in use' in any automation .. i just tested a midi track with embeded mod wheel automation in it ,, and i was,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, able to remove it,alter it.. via the "mfx midi event filter" the "wheel",,,,have ya tried that ,,,,,,,,, apparently ,,p5 doesn't show ,,,it as in use" but i see a visual of it in the editor,,,,,all other cc messages seem to "show as "in use",,,,,,,,, do ya have,,, the "list editor ,,, it's splendid,,,,, maybe the "midi master',,, mr "B",, can help,,,

i think the automation setting is a better fix you can still twiddle the wheel and when you're done it returns to where automation has set it if i filter messages don't i lose the ability to twiddle the wheel and then there's the issue that it wasn't an automation issue in the 1st place, it seems to be some resest messsage coming along from the host

it seems to be some resest messsage coming along from the host ,,, umm, wrench,, i was confusing the "pitch/bend, wheel" with the mod wheel,, i always do that,, anyways,, p5 does show,,, mod wheel automation as "in use",,,, if i "import a ,,,midi file that has it in it,,,,, and was created by another ,,host,,, app,,,, whenever i need,,specifics of a' midi track" ,,, i always use,,,acid's,,,"list editor",, this "stuff" does ,, get my "panties in a bunch" ,,,ya know.,,,, it's kinda "ironic,, now ya really could use ,,,"B",,, and he's not around,,,, some "chick",, named ,,, "katrina",, has got him by the *(&^&,,,,, well ya know,,,,,, just kidding ,, i do hope he's ok,,,,,,,,, Looks like I'm going to get the time to try this weekend. This 'chick' Katrina is dropping in for an unexpected visit

ORIGINAL: wrench45us i think the automation setting is a better fix It is still not ideal though, is it? I don't know if these presets are going to be sold when complete, but if they are, then this really needs to be sorted beforehand otherwise, if someone has the same problem, they may express their dissatisfaction publicly (hell, even if they're free people will still **** ) If you want, I will post my email here and you can send the preset in question to me (providing I have the synth it is for) and will test out whether I have the same problem...don't worry about the discretion thing, I have beta tested a number of products, so I am aware of the obligations that come with this...anyway, let me know...

Rob, e mail me at wrench45us AT Yahoo.com and I can provide some details and some examples of previous work that exhibits the same behavior
