sonar 7 - three years and three computers and never being able to do anything
Hi Can anyone help. I want to use sonar 7 for audio recording of acoustic instruments. i BOUGHT IT THREE YEARS AGO! I have never had it working -delay and crackling are unbearable. I bought sonar the same time as a laptop XP PROFESSIONAL (AMD TURION (64X2 TL-56, 1.8 GHZ 2GB RAM, REALTECH SOUND) USING M AUDIO DUO INTERFACE THRU USB.) CONSTANT FISH AND CHIPS FRYING MASSIVE DELAY IN MIDI TOO NEW SET UP PENTIUM R DUAL CPU , 3.8GHZ, 2BD RAM WINDOWS 7, SAME AUDIO INTERFACE SAME PROBLEMS I TESTED , IN FRUSTRATION, ON A FRIENDS OLD MACHINE, XP HOME, 516 RAM, 2GHZ PROCESSOR- WORKS FINE! I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE NOW A WINDOWS 7 ISSUE WITH WINDOWS 7, SO I DOWN LOADED THE TRIAL VERSION OF XI. EVEN WORSE. I HAVE INTERNET AND SECURITY OFF. PLEASE HELP

What drivers have you used with your M-Audio? Have you checked that SONAR is NOT trying to use the Realtek?.. Or vice versa, using only the Realtek with MME or ASI4ALL-drivers might work somehow. If it works on a single core 2 Ghz machine with practically no RAM, one could suspect there's something broken in your PC, but it's not very likely that three computers were broken in the same way. Did you check that the settings are the same in both the friends machine an yours? The only way to hunt down the culprits is to be absolutely, thoroughly organized. You must write down every setting in the Options-dialogue of that functioning SONAR-system and compare them to your system that isn't working. The buffers, latency settings and Playback- and Record-timing masters are the most essential.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

i WILL CONTINUE TRYING i HAVE XP DRIVERS FOR THE AUDIO, AND HAVE IT SELECTED AS MY INPUT AND OUTPUT. i TRIED COPYING THE AUDIO SETTINGS ON THE OLD MACHINE WITH NO JOY. I WILL TRY ONE LAST SLOW ANALYSIS. AS IT STANDS A LOT OF MONEY FOR NOTHING. ENJOYED YOUR QUIP ABOUT BEING A MIDDLE AGED USER.

Please post screencaps of ALL the tabs in your Audio Options settings. It will cut out a lot of guesswork and greatly increase the chances of you getting very specific and useful advice.

Maybe a little paid consultation might help you a LOT... for 40 bucks you can get 30 minutes. http://www.studiocat.com/2/index.php/Consultation I'd make a list of your problems, a list of all your computer specs, all your gear model #s etc... and give them a call. Even if it takes an hour, which I doubt, it would be a well spent 80 bucks. Have your gear and instruments set up as best you know how before you start to you don't waste consultation time setting stuff up... That is my advice... Julien PS you can only use one instance of ASIO drivers with W-7. Search the forum for "tweaks". Download and run DPC Latency Checker to see if your machine is the problem. IT will tell you if the machine is a problem but not what the problem is. IF yu're getting just a little problem try going offline and run it... don't give up, I know exactly how you feel... you get inspired and by the time you figure anything out you are so frustrated you no longer feel like recording anything then when it hits you again you've fogotten what you learned before... you just have to break through, once you (we) do things will be good! Is there really such an option to be selected in the Options dialogue? If it means some generic windows driver, then do not use it. ASIO is the most recommendable (DL the latest from M-Audios site), WDM can work equally well, MME is the weakest. Having some screenshots would surely help.

Oh, a reunion! I'll mark my calendar. But seriously, do we know anyone who's had success running Sonar on a laptop? Or at least, the average laptop? (And does Sonar 7 run on Windows 7?)
