sonar x1 studio record busy

Hello All,
 
I recently installed the subject software on my laptop and everything seemed to be working fine until I started importing wave files from various sources (Ripped from CD's, created with SONAR 8.5, input via mic, etc.  With each attempt at importing a .wav file, I get a record busy message in the audio track.  I follwed the instruction on page 1132 of the reference manual to no avail.  Any suggestions on what I should try next.  Systems is HP pavilion with windows 7, 64 bit.
 
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    if it never imports and just stays locked at "busy" then it's a problem with conversion.  look at the properties of the wave file in windows explorer and see what the properties say about the sample rate, bit rate, etc.
