There are only a couple of tablet first computers that run windows.  I know samsung has some, tho more are coming once Windows 8 is released.  That should open up the market.  MS's Surface tablet is coming soon.

I have an ipad and "logmein ignition". I tried to control Sonar with it awhile back. Trying to control eq's and stuff was too jumpy to be really useful. I am looking forward the the "Pro" Surface tablets that will actually run programs like Sonar. It will really start to get interesting then.

This is something that sort of bugs me. Windows has been on tablets for many years. I even have a small old hand held computer by Casio called the Cassiopeia that runs Windows CE. Touch screen included.

Here is an Asus Slate that runs Win 7.

Apple has stolen the notion that they invented tablets when they were late to it by many years. Just as they were with the ipod an MP3 player that people seem to think was the first one.

Look around and stop thinking everything new comes from Apple because it doesn't.

Well said John.

There's a conflict there:

The trend to tablets and Sonar's increasing use of screen space.

I used to use a 10" netbook as an out-and-abouter. Not really practical anymore.

Now we don't want to talk about that, do we?

The iPad/Tablet product is always going to have limitations for this kind of stuff based on the core audio design...I have a few DAW proggys I can run on the ipad but they are really toys compared to a real DAW.

As far as running Sonar (or any other real daw platform) why would you want ti excpet to snatch some audio in a live remote situation and in that case your limitation is going to be gear...(mics/pre's/etc)

The one place I have found the ipad to shine in is in being a control surface and also keeping track of trax and songlist...

AC7 Core is a great program and only a little cludgey to get going...

I have also found a good metric on the tablets for software cost, some of the engineering programs are way above the price-per-point I paid for them...

I'm using SOnar Platinium on a 6 core Lynx Audio machine and a ton of vintage pre-amps/eq's/comps I build for fun and sometimes money, REDD.47/API/Neve I also use the UAD stuff, and also use a Macbook Logic 9 through Apogee...

Tablet's should be fine when they start running W8 and intel chips - at least as good as a laptop.  IF they get the touch right.

I think viewsonic has a 27 inch touchscreen coming out w/ android and chip built in.  That might work as a controller for a real computer.

hi again,
just to clear a few things up i do not want my tablet to power sonar my laptop or desktop in my house will power the software i just want a tablet that runs windows 7 i have seen a few but was wondering if anyone has used the program logmein to control sonar with a tablet, so i do not have to carry around a laptop all i really want to know is has anyone got a tablet and the program logmein or other variations and done this and does it work?
As logmein is just a controller that allows you to control the computer so basically it just sends the image on my desktop screen to my tablet and touch would be the mouse, i also have other softwares which would be perfect for making beats via a touchscreen but i do not want my tablet to power any software such as sonar as that is stupid at the moment plus it would probably fry the processor with heat

also preferrably not an apple product or ipad as i hate apple industry killers who are followed by mass flocks of sheep who have there eyes closed when it comes to real tech spec

While you wait for other brand mobile devices to do this kind of stuff and rage on Apple, their mobile devices already do all this stuff. Just saying. For instance the mobile version of GarageBand gives you 8 tracks to be used as midi or audio. The project can be available via iCloud in GarageBand on your computer without ever plugging in a cable. Also, Logic can open GarageBand songs. Many audio/midi interfaces available for apple mobile devices.

Just saying.

I'd love to see this kind of thing going on with other mobile devices but its not. The integration between apple products is top notch.

Try ac7 as mentioned above. Worked great using an iPod Touch. Setup was kind of a pain.

Re:sonar x2 tablet 2012/10/13 07:27:59 (permalink)
I use logmein to fix my 82,000-year old mom's computer from asfar.  (I say asfar instead of afar, because I need to be ASFAR away as possible when dealing with her on computer things, or my head will explode.  LOVE her dearly, but she grew up when there were no speed limits and you had to add coloring cubes to boiling pots of margerine to make it look edible).

No issue there, nope, nuh uh.

I have a curious question - if you WERE to access your Sonar remotely through a tablet, using logmein or whatever, you would not be able to hear anything, as you are only in an emulated session where all output devices and such on her machine are just that - on HER machine.

That being the case, what would you hope to be DOING in Sonar remotely?

Just asking - no judgments or any of that sort of thing - I just don't readily see what the ability to do that would get you, in real terms of musical functionality.  I suppose you could use the technique to freak out your cat while you were out, by playing projects with audio tracks of squeaking mice and baby birds, but what practical things would you be able to do?

I FINALLY understand - my recent coffee intake has awakened my neurons.

Please ignore my ignorance - I do see what you wish to do, but do not have any level of expertise on available tablets to be able to offer any useful input.

Again, sorry - please forgive me (at least I didn't tell you to buy an iPad, so I got THAT going for me....)
