sorting files confusion - solved thru sonar prg

Some how I ended up with two folders for all songs with some duplication and some differing versions of the same songs and it's all very confusing.
I'd like to sort these but every time I move files to newly named folders and try to open in Sonar, it can't find the waves associated.
This seems like it would be simple.
In Windows explorer:
1.Make a folder called Song A
2.Dump in all the CWP files for song A
4.Make an audio file inside and dump in all the waves for song A
4.Open the file in Sonar.
What am I missing?
Is there some other kind of file that is getting confused with this process?

Don't worry too much,as no one else has answered,it seems they too,are cofused by this as am I!

As far as I know, every project has it's own Audio folder, and no matter how many .cwp's you do,associated with that Title,it uses the SAME folder for the .wav files....I think?

I too,am confused by this as I have tried, the same thing[maybe?],and ended up with the "can't find audio" pop up,when opening a project.

I recently, had a song, where I made a bunch of cloned tracks of a guitar .wav's,and I ended up with 35 multiple MegaBytes's of .wav  files, for this one song,so I went into the "Audio" folder for that song, and deleted what-I thought were the "extras",and ended up losing the original .wav, that was the ONE I wanted to keep!

Luckily,I had copied the whole song as a .cwb, bundle file onto a USB stick, and could drop it back into the project.....but,it had none of the editing I had done since copying, and had to start again anyway.

I'm sure there is an explanation to how to navigate Explorer,in relation to Sonar better, than what I've found, but I don't know where/who that is?........bummer huh!

Where you are going wrong is by trying to use windows explorer to move the audio around. You need to let Sonar do this. Always do a "save as" and direct it to where you want the files. Make sure the box "copy all audio" is checked too.

My solution which has worked without a hitch is to create my folders in windows explorer before I even open Sonar. But I use "save as" to put stuff there.

I use a data drive that is for the studio files only. Create a main folder "Album" or "Session"
Within this folder create a sub folder for each song. Everything to do with that song goes in there.
Open Sonar and load the desired template. Do a "Save As" and direct the file to the song folder you made and Name the song as such.
Sonar will create an audio folder in there too.
If a live recording session is going to happen I do this for all the songs being recorded that session.
Extra takes of a songs can be done as more "Save as" and add Take 2 to the name. But it stays in the same folder.

I often do live sessions on my laptop and then dump this "session" folder to a external drive. I then dump this to my home studio DAW and these songs open perfectly with only a little screen re sizing to do.
The secret weapon is to always keep everything in that song folder and it will no go bad on you. To tidy up multiple copies of the song all you need to do is Create a new folder with Windows explorer, Open Sonar, load the "keeper" version of the song and do a "save as" to the new location. Only the audio you are using in that version will be copied to the new audio folder.

Perfect! Thanks.
That will not take any longer than my process, does a check to confirm what it is and guarantees it will work. Hopefully I can delete the hundreds of duplications in the old files once I'm done.
