soul serenade

Hi,

This song has been covered by everyone from Aretha Franklin to Derek Trucks but my favorite arrangement is by the late  altosax great, Hank Crawford. For better or worse I've tried to emulate his arrangement with cheap horn samples

If you've got a few minutes and are so inclined you can check it out here: soul serenade

I mean, why not?

As always, comments, complaints and/or suggestions are welcome...thanks.

I may have to come back and listen to this again tomorrow, I'm finally getting my daughter card fixed and I can listen in the cans again :-) Till then, I'm on the notebook speakers. Sounds pretty good though! What's not to like? Horns? A Hammond? Plaintive guitar? I'm there. Good job.

Outstanding.  Cheap horn samples?  It just goes to show that knowing how horn players play can help in programming.  This is all good.

    Gary,

I am always hesitant to listen to your posts because your playing makes me want to sell all my guitars and take up the autoharp;)  This cover is no exception...   Really fine job.   I think the horns sound fine.

Wow, masterfully played and gorgeous tone as always, Love the shred and that dirtier tone was ear cany. Other instrumentation is splendid as well and a pro sounding as well. My favorite from you , I don't recall hearing you play so aggressively before +1 for goosebumps, now that was a climax!

Don't know the tune at all, but as far as I'm concerned I can't imagine it sounding any better. Agree with JamesG - no idea how you  manage to do stuff like that without getting your fingers all tangled up !  Oustanding playing / production. No crits here. Well, maybe one tiny little one - the fadeout could have been better - let's it down ever so slightly when every other detail seems to have been so well taken care of.

    Hello Gary
Once again, AMAZING performance.  Mix sounds real good on my end.  I didn't mind the horn samples.  What software did you use?  Love the tone of the guitar had a classic TELE vibe.  Your playing is so impeccable that at times you made me think I was listening to a steel guitar. INCREDIBLE stuff my friend.  My ears THANK YOU!

I'm glad you liked the "TELE vibe" 'cause, since it's the only electric guitar I own, it's pretty much the only vibe I've got I got the horn samples from Native Instruments for $20.00 a year or so ago. Thanks again!

    Hey, Gary,

Wow, this is a really amazing cover of a traditional blues song with super tasty playing, killer tone and a really spectacular mix!

Absolutely fantastic performances, super playing, and top notch, pro quality production.  I agree with James about this being one of the best quality mixes posted here on the forum.

    Pure dynamite, my friend!
