either of those will work, tony.

the duo capture is very new, I haven't heard a lot about it on the forums, but it should work fine.  the alpha I know occassionally has driver issues, but usually get sorted out.

If I was considering a new audio interface, I would be suspicious of anything that advertises itself as "plug and play".
That might sound quick and easy, but often doesn't give you the results you want due to the lack of a native ASIO driver. They have a link for the ASIO4All driver on their Docs and Downloads page, but ASIO4All is a band-aid, not a cure.
Look for a device that has real ASIO drivers (NOT ASIO4All).
    I wouldn't recommend this interface.

the Alesis IO2 is not on my list for a reason.  it might work, but I don't recommend it because I've seen problems on the forum with them.  and like greg, I suspect their drivers are generic windows drivers.  not the best.

FWIW, the Duo-capture's big brother is the QUAD Capture (they might have an OCTAcapture as well, I don't remember without looking).

a couple of forum members have purchased the quad capture and love it.  so I would suspect that the duo capture is very similar.  probably uses the same drivers.

lexicon is OK.  they're not bad, but they are finicky sometimes trying to get them to work with all systems.

if I were in your shoes I might try the DuoCapture.

i found the v studio 20 to be very good..its afordable at 299(i know its a little expensive)but its got 8 faders to control volume for each track.and a bunch of other goodies.
next in line is the focusrite saffire 6 usb for 199 it works very well in hs7xl
