sp606 & home studio

just purchased sp606 used w/o p606 software. Also purchased Home Studio 2004. Are they compatible or do I need another program (Project5 or Kinetic or another Cakewalk program to get full use of the hardware?

Thanx

    Compatible in what way?

What are your computer specs? What soundcard are you using? Those are important questions.

using winxp pro and i'm running a pentium4 at 500mhz, with 500mb ram, a Delta 66 sound card and about 100g of available space. i will also be trying them on a Mac g4 laptop. running virtual pc for mac and win xp pro. i don't know the other specs right now. i just ordered Kinetic because one of the forum members said it resembled the p606 that was supposed to be bundled with the sp606.

    many thanx

A 500MHz Pentium 4? That doesn't sound right. Are you sure its not a Pentium 3?

Either way, sounds like you don't have enough horsepower to run that combination.

He doesn't...500 (512?) MB RAM will barely run CW in XP...500Mhz CPU will probably start "smoking" after about two minutes...

I'm running a K6-2 (Pentium 2 equivelent) 533MHz with 320Mb Ram, and HS2 works fine, provided I don't do audio, and only use 1 or 2 soft synths. MIDI only, no problem. Yes, I plan an upgrade soon.
When I bought HS2, it came bundled with Pyro and Kinetic. Pyro works fine, but my system doesn't meet the minimum requirements for Kinetic.
My advice, get a better computer, or you will be very limited in what you can do. As soon as I can afford it, I'll be following my own advice.

Beg to differ - with my current system, but with only 256mb RAM, I was able to make 12-15 track audio recordings, with minimal FX. It occasionally dropped out, but not enough to really get frustrating.
I now have 768mb and have NO dropouts... but 256 was adequate for starters.

    Slugbaby,

You CAN function with smaller RAM sizes, but you CAN'T do it efficiently when attempting serious recording. RAM upgrades are so inexpensive these days. Why would anyone be satisfied with anything less than a "lightning fast", "efficient" system?

Papa, I agree, it's pointless not to upgrade to Supafast (I know I haven't yet...), but for someone just starting to learn about recording, it's not always necessary to go full out.
Some of the newbies here are struggling to hook up their soundcards or learn the difference between MIDI and audio (no offense to them), and aren't going to be maxing out even a low-end system for a while.

I'm running HS2002 on an 800mhz Celeron machine with only 128megs of ram with Windows ME!
No problems getting upwards of 20 tracks of audio........

HS 2002 is an obsolete version compared to HS2 or HS2XL...The CPU & RAM usage isn't as demanding...BTW, why do you continue using Win ME? It will soon be (IMO) completely useless for any DAW programs...Win 98SE is far more stable than ME has ever been; I fought upgrades to XP until I had no choice...I don't regret it now...Just an opinion from my end of the "food chain"...

Because I'm cheap! XP wouldn't run on this system with only 128megs of ram, so until I upgrade to another box I'll stick with ME. It's been remarkably stable for me and will suffice until I grab a 64 bit system.
