static/distortion from plugins

I was trying to add plugin effects (Pod Farm, Amplitube) to a dry track and it resulted in static/noise on the track. Any ideas on what might be causing this? I am using HS6XL.
Thanks!

What's your operating system? How much RAM? How fast is the computer? What sound card or audio interface are you using? What's your latency now?

Yes, plugins are registered. I'm using a Line 6 UX1 as the interface. Running Windows Vista, I'll check the rest of the computer specs tonight. Thanks all.

Are you using ASIO (under the Audio settings)?  If not try changing to ASIO.
If still getting noise then go back to the Audio settings, click on the ASIO button and if the latency slider is all the way to the left then start shifting it to the right to see if that helps (you can throw it full right to start - but you'll want it as far to the left as possible when recording).

Run POD farm standalone and see if the static is caused by that.

Yes, running ASIO. Ran POD farm standalone and no static there, only when I put a plugin on a track.
Thanks all for your suggestions, tried them all.

you mentioned you are using it as an effect do you mean that you are adding it after the audio has been recorded or are you recording live through pod farm.
If you are applying it after the audio has been recorded it will not sound exactly right, at least on a guitar recording.

You can try changing the I/O Buffer size.
