strange error message

I'm trying to finish a project but I keep having this error turn up. It doesn't seem to be related to any particular action. For example, I left the project open and went to make a cuppa... when I returned it had come up with this:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4195208/crash1.jpg

It now seems to do it every time I have had the project open for longer than about 20 minutes. I then get the abnormal program termination message and have to force restart my computer as the SONARPDR.exe is still running.

Can anyone shed some light on what might be causing this?

I don't know if its related but scrolling through the project seems to be quite sluggish as well.

I'm running X2a Producer in Win7 64 bit. Core2Quad Q9550. 8GB RAM. EMU 0404 USB audio interface all with latest updates etc.

Sorry can not help other than to say that is a debug message.

Also to say you are not alone since the introduction of X2a I have experienced the following problems.

    1.  Entire system just hangs after about twenty to thirty minuets only when SONAR X2a is running.

    2.  SONAR crashes on exit.

    3. Press play, press stop, insert a track, delete a track BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH, always with a different error.

However I can run Soundforge 8 and CD Architect all day and the system is fine no crashes no blue screens.

My system spec' is the same as yours except I am running a Intel 2600K CPU and a Focusrite Saffire Pro 26 i/o.  The PC is a dedicated DAW and not used for anything else.  I conect to the internet from a speraerate PC.

    Sorry can not help.

I would suspect a plugin of some sort.  Do you have vst effects patched into your effects bin(s)?  That would be the first place I would start looking.

Yes I have quite a few effects running. The problem is, the project is usually fine for about 20 mins and the error has no obvious root trigger. If I go through and remove each plugin and wait for the error it could take forever! :D

I have just clean installed my DAW to have everything running smoothly. What a ball ache. :/

    Thanks

Great plan just what I thought so I have done some testing over the last week.

Oops no it appears to be a problem with the following project forms.

    1. Audio only using only cakewalk pro channel.

    2. Midi Hardware driven synths no soft-synths or third party soft-synths or plugins.  No audio recorded just running the hardware synths.

    3. A Mix of 1 and 2

    4. Using as 3 and plugins of supplied and third party.

Which in book my covers all bases unless my furry fringe is obscuring something.

You could try starting the project in Safe Mode, leaving out all plugins, and see if you have the same problem.  If not, then you know it's a plugin.  If you still get the error without any plugins loaded, then you know it's something else.

Wookiee, are you running 64 bit Windows & Sonar?

If so, what driver are you using for the Pro26IO

Hi Colin, yes it is a Inta Audio PC 2600K 8gig Ram running Windows 7 home premium 64bit, built last year when Cakewalk announced that X2 would no longer be supporting XP.  To the best of my knowledge the Saffire driver is the last/latest from Focusrite.  (I will check the version and edit this message later today when I get in the studio)

If you remember we actually exchanged a PM about settings for this device. The problems I describe have manifested themselves since the release of X2a.  As I said I can use Soundforge 9 all day, which is known to have a few problems with Windows 7, I can use CD Architect all day as well without problem.  By all day I mean 7 to 8 hours.

    Thanks for asking.

Looks like a Microsoft Visual C++ issue with an SDK. This would be something Cakewalk developers would need to investigate, because likely, it's part of the C++ compiled code, and you may not be able to dissect the failing .cpp module.

There's a similar error on Steinberg's forum as well.

Possible Solution: You may check to see that you have the latest Visual C++ Runtime Library updates from Microsoft (Windows Updates), and you may end up re-installing Sonar after those updates. Try calling Cakewalk support and have them help validate that you need to update and to what version.

That looks like a SynthEdit plugin (the SE_sdk is the giveaway), so it's probably an SE plug-in in your project that has a problem.

Could it be related to your Windows power settings?
Hard drive getting shut down after 20 minutes?
PC going to sleep after 20 minutes?
Try setting your power setting to "Always On" or whatever Windows calls it.

I'm sticking with my original assertion that it is a plugin of some sort.

Isn't peach a SynthEdit soft synth. This error is documented on the web as being a result of a file used by SynthEdit built soft synths.

That's definitely a code debug message. When you beta test software on a certain development platform, you get those Assertion messages all the time. They help the developer debug the code. As far as I know, Assertion messages shouldn't be showing up in released software. There's definitely something weird going on there.
