Re: sync files between desktop and laptop - instrument definitions, and outputs, etc

When I got to church, I hooked up all of my hardware and then booted my laptop - it wasn't pretty...
I lucked out and had some voices fall into place - I figured that was because I ended up assigning the right synth to the right port and channel... which has to be a big clue.
My guess is this:
I have a UM2 and Maudio FW midi channel.
I dug around on google and found some really old threads from way back when "PITN" and PITA were two descriptions of this same situation I figured maybe they have done something over time to address that.
I recently upgraded to platinum but for the sake of time have not gone beyond seeing a whole new interface that I need to get a grip on... a little more intense screen time than I can deal with at my age with my ability to "adjust to change" without a lot of eye strain. at least while I need to complete stuff for Christmas season without more stress.
Don't mean to take up time other than this thought?? I was thinking i might try to set an instrument to an entire midi port... rather than channels (if possible). It might make it more "uniform" rather than mixing synths on um1 and um2, etc.
I guess I'll write to tech support and see if they have any ideas. I was hoping that I could have some "global solution like a global configuration file that once I set one computer I could copy it to the other one" ( not sure how this all works... can you tell ?)
Nothing more to add, other than I got a major headache last night trying to come close to having things sound like they did on the desk top.
Appreciate all the other help recently.....
