synth question

hi, i have a m-audio 49 key controller, it worked fine with SONAR 6 but i just tried it in X-1. when i open the TTS-1 i get sound from the little note symbol at the bottom of the slider but nothing when i play the keyboard. SONAR "sees" the controller because i see the little thing in the task bar but it doesn't "blink" when i press a key. again, i'm missing a step. this is a brand new computer and i just installed the driver. this is something i don't use a lot however i do like to dick around with it. does anyone have any ideas??
sorry for the dumb questions because i'm sure with most of you this is ridiculous.
thanks

You never know if it is a dumb question until you ask, and then it is too late.  Of course, if you don't ask you'll never get an answer!

The task bar midi icon isn't blinking which means SONAR isn't getting a signal.  SONAR puts that blinking (or nonblinking, in your case) icon there for just such use.

IF you have just installed SONAR you need to set the midi up, just like you have to for audio.  Options>midi, I believe.  There should be a list of all the midi drivers on your computer.  IF your keyboard is a USB controller it will most likely need the drivers and associated software installed - if you don't have the disks you can usually go to the manufactorer's site.  Once the driver is installed SONAR can see the driver and use it.

The MIDI icon in the taskbar will be there no matter what. It doesn't mean X1 recognizes your controller.
If it doesn't blink, Sonar(X1) doesn't see it.
In X1, you will find the settings AT mentioned under Edit>Preferences.

You did not say so I'll ask. Did you have everything plugged in and turned on before you launched Sonar?
This simple step helps a ton.

actually thats a good answer, many times when someone is trying to figure out a problem it's something like not being plugged in

I have an M-Audio KeyRig 49 and Sonar loses it often.  I sometimes have to reboot Sonar with the KeyRig plugged in and then look at Preferences to be sure it is checked in MIDI devices.  Seems to be a quirk with Sonar.

I also have an LPK-25 that almost never works, but it also fails with Sibelius, too, so I won't blame Sonar for that one.
