tascam and cakewalk interfaces (w/cakewalk as controller) used together?

please help me if you can.   thank you in advance for any insight you can lend me.

I presently own a cakewalk v-studio 100, which I like very much by the way.  I am eying that new Tascam uh-7000 interface for the quality components and the dual mic preamps.

what my question is, can I use the Tascam uh-7000 as an audio interface to take advantage of the burr browns, pres, etc. "and" use the Roland v-studio 100 as a controller for the mixer, transport, act control, midi, etc?

my other equipment is a golden age project pre-73 mkii preamp for "color" and a radial jdi passive direct in for my archtop and classical guitars with active preamps.   have a rode nt1-a and akg c 1000 s condenser microphones with se electronics reflection screens (vocal and instrument).

is the Tascam over kill?   seems like it would be a good marriage.  I hope this isn't too dumb a question to pose?

just downloaded sonar platinum.  that's what I hope to use it all with.  have the krk vtx4's and the krk 10s sub as a monitoring system for that Tascam.  hoping for some "sweet" sound.

my midi instrument is a akai professional mpk61.

if you use wdm drivers, you can use both interfaces.
ASIO only allows one at a time.

thanks blixyz, you may have saved me $600.   it was a nice thought.   might just grab a radial tonebone pz pre to compliment my golden project pre-73 mkii.   don't get bad results as it is.   I guess being here and all you know the itch.

6_Stringer - I have the UH7000 and I utilize it with VS700 there is a significant difference - more importantly the UH7000 can be used as a stand alone pre-amp and that is how I use for my VOCAL/s and other delicate tracks...

Syncing the uh7000 might be tricky since it has no clock in - only the clock signal sent via spdif.

But you should be able to use the uh7000 as the audio interface and still use the v-studio as a controller only (it only has a spif in or out - you need to check).  But the UH -7000 is a high quality audio piece, beating the bejebbers out of the v-studio (I've had both), esp. on the preamp side.  It is also superior to your golden pre, which is a good preamp if a little dirty.  The 7000 doesn't have a DI, so keep the radial (or inserts, and high latency).

Of course, the beating it gives is really a matter of degree.  The subtle difference might not matter to you.  But the 7000 is also going for $400, not $600, which is list.  Not sure why the price is so low, but it hits a very sweet spot and makes a great "stupid deal of the day."  I'd try one but be able to return it if it doesn't work or meet your specifications. But I bet it will.

thank you for all of the responses.  waiting for everyone and their mothers to download sonar platinum so I don't have to deal with .01% download speeds to download the help and tutorials i'd like to view.

I am not looking to sync the two necessarily, like one might the v-studio 100 and the roland octa-capture (though there's another option in the same price range).

was  looking for functionality in the v-studio 100 more along the lines of the presonus pre-fader (or whatever that control surface was called) with the transport control, fader, etc.  thought I might also be able to incorporate the ACT functionality, mixer (routing at least) capabilities and if possible the midi in/out of the v-studio.

the superiority of the Tascam preamps or the ad/da converters is not lost on me.   it's the reason i'm looking at the Tascam.  when I purchased my golden age projects pre-73 mkii there wasn't a Tascam uh-7000.   it was an affordable upgrade from the pres in my v-studio 100 with 80+ bB gain, an active d.i.  and a fair amount of "playability (dirt)?"

I didn't purchase my krk monitoring system all at once either, sort of piecing a "decen"t system together a quality component at a time to record acoustic string music until I can properly acoustically treat a room.   the upgrade to the Tascam would be in keeping with my plan to get the best sound I can afford without breaking the bank.   at the very least, I would always have a great field recorder.

believe me, I won't be getting rid of my radial jdi.  wow, did my Cordoba gk studio (w/fishman preamp) sound smooth going through that, into the v-studio 100, same with my the loar lh-300 with k&k difinity pickup and preamp.  haven't even run them through the GA yet.

ultimately, i'd like to ad a shure sm-81 mic to the collection and i'm pretty sure that will sound good through the Tascam uh-7000 and have a "decent" system for just a few thousand bucks.  not bad to fulfill your dreams.

really appreciate the feedback.   keep it coming if you're up to it.  thanks.

was reading an old ad for the v studio 100 and I forgot all about the Mackie protocol the v-studio can emulate.  might be on the right track here with regards to using the v-studio as a control surface.
might have to figure out another way to use the v-studio as a mixer for the Tascam uh-7000 for a couple more inputs.
if you can offer any insight or suggestions in this regards, by all means, please do.   thanks
