"the Good" R&B

With all the controversy in the wold I thought I'd write a song saying there is good in most individuals, so don't let the negative news in the world make you forget that. It's called "the Good".

Brilliant Tony.  Fantastic lyrics, and heartfelt vocals.  Super production work, masterwork performances, great message.

Awesome vocal note at 2:15!!  Killer ad libs in the outro too.  You are in the zone man. :)

This is so timely, Tony.  I'd love to see you do a mixdown because you get more mileage out of your DAW than most people.  I see that you have FMR gear listed, and I still have my RNC sitting next to me, but I haven't used it in years.  Are you singing through these pieces?  I ask because your vocals just jump out of my speakers in a way that most vocals don't.  Again, this is a terrific song and production that I will reference in the future for my own mixes.

    All the best,

Move over Smokey and Marvin, 'cuz there is room for this guy next to you. I've always put you near the top on this forum, Tony , but this one is stellar. Creamy smooth vox over a pristine arrangement and mix. Beautiful song.  First class all the way. Congratulations in order.............Via con Dios, amigo........... Ron

Tony, Great song with a great mix. Instrumentation and vocals are spot on. Rode mic's are top notch in any vocal production work and your coming through - loud and clear. Nicely done!!

    Vocals are absolutely great!!!

I'd try for more real horns (please!!!) and your kick drum sample was trying to wreck my woofers, or just sounded like it. Lots of high end in that kick drum? Maybe my speakers are losing it . . .

Very talented, very well mixed otherwise, especially the backing vocals . . . thanks!!!

    cheers,

    Ola Tony!

I know when you post, its a song that has been approved by you and every sample and note has been carefully selected and cared for. This is no different.

Lynn says you get more out of your DAW than most and that is soo true. I love the percussion sounds aswell as your effortless vocal and adlibs.

I thought the song lacked a stronger hook, but that just to pick.  Its completed professionally, easily sit on the radio and would sit proudly in a tony pruden album.

The horn sample didnt bother me, they dont play a huge part in the song.

How did you do the male group backing, are they all you or did you use effects etc?

    Cian

Mix-wise the kick does seem a bit over-present and the horns could be more "natural".

But in the end, so what - great song, arrangement and performances.   Vocals are of course a standout, both the lead and backgrounds.  The overall mix is clear and wide and just sounds great.    Nits aside I can certainly picture this on the radio.

Great stuff, as usual. Been a fan of your stuff for as long as you've been sharing here, Tony.

This is indeed the "good" R&B, the kind I grew up with, the kind with a melody and a groove.

Outstanding vocals, great mix - I have to agree with stevec on the kick comment, though. It's a bit strong for such a mellow vibe, at least here on my monitors. I know that big thump is one of your signature elements, though, so it's all good. I'd just prefer that nothing distract from your other signature element - great vocals and harmonies.

Thanks for sharing. And thanks to Warren for bumping the thread, as I've been away from Songs for awhile and might have otherwise missed this gem.

I'm sorry for taking so long to respond my friends, I've been busy building a mobile vocal both for my new mic, a Neumann tlm 103. Thank you all for the kind words and suggestions. I've tinkered a bit with the horns but didn't change them because NI Session Horns are the best horns I have. I did, however changed the kick drum to a more solid dry sound (the new kick is taking me a while to get used to). I always hope my less than great production skills won't take too much a way from the song. Anyway, thank you for your support my friends. I should also note I'm using Bandcamp instead of Soundcloud to post from now on. Soundcloud doesn't seem to care how I wan to present my material.
