Cool Stand-alone VSTi Host (Free!)

I just came across this cool little donationware app called SAVIHost - it's a stand-alone VSTi host. I've been wanting something like this for a while now for programming sounds without having to open Sonar, P5, etc.. This one is very simple to use and has a built-in keyboard for auditioning patches.

He also offers a more comprehensive app called vsthost that looks pretty interesting as well.

    Hi Rev. Jem,

Yeah, I've been comparing MiniHost and SAVIHost and I have to say good call - I like MiniHost better. Although, at first I was getting a little miffed at it because everytime I tried to get it to scan the Cakewalk and Steinberg folders on my laptop, it would crash. Of course, it turned out to be user error - I forgot to grab the Steinberg dongle from my desktop. One of the biggest differences between MiniHost and SAVIHost is that SAVIHost does not scan/remember your VSTi's - you have to create a separate instance of the savihost.exe file for each VSTi, place it in the same folder as the VSTi .dll file, and rename it with the same name as the .dll file of the VSTi you want it to open (i.e., SAVIHost.exe > Rapture.exe). This makes it difficult, if not impossible, to have it work with VSTi's that already have an .exe file associated with it (e.g., Z3TA+).
